What’s the deal?
It’s now possible to get teeny tiny video-capable 2GB mp3/4 players for less than £20 delivered in Ebuyer’s pre-christmas sale. This was unthinkable even 6 months ago, but the price of memory chips and lcd screens continues to drop.
Update Note 15 Nov: Since going in the weekly e-mail (which goes out to 1.5 million people), all the players originally listed below have sold out. We're trawling the web for alternative deals right now, and should the players come back in stock this post will be updated.
Where can I get one?

The Ebuyer players are so cheap because they are mass-manufactured in China and then re-branded by any number of retailers on these shores and elsewhere.
As a result, don’t expect a manual you can understand; often the translation is bad enough to be useless, but thankfully the players aren’t too complex to use. As mentioned above, it also tends to be a good idea to substitute the supplied earphones; they’re almost always very poor quality.

- Ebuyer Extra Value M-158 2GB MP3-4 Player £17.50 delivered (Blue sold out) . Limited stock available in green for £21.70 delivered, or in pink for £22.80 delivered.
Looking not unlike a cheap copy of an old iPod nano, with a 1.5" screen, this player actually has better features than the latter, even if not quite the quality.
Its 2GB of storage’s enough for around 500 songs, or 2hrs of video, and it also includes an fm radio and built-in mic for voice recording. It supports a range of file-types, and you don't need special PC software to load songs on to it (it works more like a USB memory key just plug it in and move the file over), though you do need to convert video files.
Listen let's not over-egg it though, this is a cheap player so don't expect high build quality; the user interface is awkward to get used to, sound quality and battery life aren’t amazing, and the supplied headphones could use replacement.
- Ebuyer Extra Value M-173 2GB MP3-4 Player £19.50 delivered (Black out of stock).
This player offers all of the features of the above, but with a slightly bigger (1.8”) screen. It also sports sleeker (and far more original) styling and an in-built speaker should you wish to irritate your neighbours on public transport. Again, the supplied headphones leave a lot to be desired.
- Sumvision Platinum lite MP4 Player 2GB. £27.60 delivered (Silver out of stock)
This tiny player (2/3rds of a credit card's size), also from Ebuyer, has similar features to the first with a 1.5" LCD screen and multi-format playback, but it's built slightly better and comes housed in a smart chrome case (watch out for fingerprints!). It also boasts better battery life than those above. On the downside, it's size means it lacks an fm tuner, and only has a 2.5mm headphone socket, so you'll need an adaptor to plug in 3rd-party 3.5mm jack headphones (about £1).
If you've spotted a better deal, please click reply and add it in the post below. And feedback your view on these players.

- Sony NWD-B105FB.
Another 2GB USB stick style model, this Sony is pretty smart, and sports a thin screen for menu navigation (though no video).
Unlike previous Sony players, it’s also drag-and-drop, meaning you can load all your songs directly to the player, not via the clunky SonicStage software usually supplied.
To get one for free, you need to apply for a SonyCard* via this special link, get accepted, and then spend £250 on it (before paying it off in full, of course). This’ll earn you enough of Sony’s ‘Pulsebeats’ reward points to redeem the player, or numerous other items worth £30-£50. The best thing to do is read my full Credit Card Freebies article for more details.

Yep and Ebuyer still charging £10 + for postage to Northern Ireland to be delivered next week
Horrible campany, never will buy off anyone who rips people off for postage, we in Norn Iron only buy from people who WANT us as customers, amazon etc...... no extra delivery charge for Northern Ireland
How about that for a new Campaign Martin
PS Keep up the great workI am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -
Warning regarding the ebuyer mp3 players some of those type of players are hacked and contain viruses. They should be avoided as there have been many complaints on-line about the players from customers across the world:
http://www.xbox0.co.uk/
http://www.mympxplayer.org/petition-stop-this-multi-million-dollar-fraud-on-ebay--vt3442.html
These are not good mp3 players and the build of the player is poor avoid at all costs. These players are mass produced and rarely ever have the capacity they say they do.0 -
A humourous review of a cheap mass produced MP3/Video player (contains strong language) - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=us507LedkyY
In short, they probably just about cut it as a music player, but video is likely to be pretty poor. But as they say, you get what you pay for, and the prices on both units have dropped since Martin posted them.0 -
Also worth noting that they primarily play WMV video files, this means they WILL NOT play AVI or DIVX type files.0

The Sumvision players on ebuyer, though fiddly to use, i have found to be of perfectly reasonable quality. Often you might need to have a look at mympxplayer.org for tips on how to use or updated drivers and so on but I've had my 4Gb sumvision Kpac for a while now and its been fine. The video quality is good though not spectacular, but i can't complain for the cost! Build quality is fine and it will handle avi/divx files if converted.0

I have ordered one of the MP4 players as a christmas present - I cannot work out if the headphones come with it and if they don't what I am supposed to do about the smaller jack thingy!
As you see I am very technical!
