  • Folks,

Is it possible for, say, my girlfriend to get the £145 plus each of us to receive the £25 incentive....?

    Thanks.
  • I have just read the post on switching bank accounts for people that are using overdrafts.

Im one of those people with two accounts with the same bank. One is my current account and the other which is my old graduate account which has just recently switched to a normal account and i still have £1,400 in the overdraft. I was thinking of switching my bank account to the Premier Current account with Alliance & Leicester. As they have a 0% overdraft upto £2000 for 12mths and then only 50p per day or a maximum of £5 per month. This sounds very good to me, but if anyone can advise me on this move i would appriciate it a lot.

I was thinking of opening the account and then using the overdraft, paying off the old graduate overdraft and then transfer money from my Llyods Tsb current account to my new Alliance & Leicester account, paying off the Alliance & Leicester overdraft over the 12mths at 0%.

    Is this a good idea?

    Thanks

    B

I would like some advice please.
I have a choice of these banks as they are the only ones with a local branch if ever the time needed.

The banks are Barclays, Lloyds, Natwest, Halifax and Abbey.

At the moment I need to use an overdraft, I also dont have a decent credit score right now.

Ive just signed up for the A&L account and moved salary and dd's. So my next pay and dd's will come out from the new account. On their website, it says you have to credit the account with 500 pounds in the first 11 weeks. It does say you need to pay 500 a month to keep it open. So really in theory, could i pay my salary into there until i get the 100 pounds and then just move the lot back to my other bank. Or can i move it back after one month? Would the 100 pounds be at risk? Ive kinda changed my mind on moving my bank account but wouldnt mind hanging on for the 100 pounds. Am happy to do as much shifting as needed. Really like Natwest as a bank so would like to stay with them after all. They have been really helpful in assisting me with sorting my large overdraft out, so thinking that if i go and move my money for a couple of months, am pretty likely to raise their eyebrows!

I'd keep paying in the monthly amount until you actually get the £100 if it was me. Just to make sure. But they are just looking for the money being credited to the account - it won't have to stay there.

A&L don't get very good reviews on here, so that could be a wise move. Natwest are hardly the best bank out there (no interest on current account, and very shaky customer service in my experience), but probably still far above A&L.

Ive had no complaints over Natwest, I know others that havent had great experience, but i;ve found that by always talking to them they are pretty agreeable and easy going. I could be tempting fate with that sentence hope not. But up til now they have been more than accommodating and understanding.

What would you say is the best bank out there? When (not if) I'm debt free :-) I would go to the best bank!
  • HI Guys, i was wondering if anyone could offer me any advice. My husband and I have got a current account with HSBC and we have been with them now for like 20 years! We have got an overdraft with them of £2,500 which we go up to every month (bad i know, but we are starting to sort ourselves out!!) but never go over. We get charged between 14 - 20 pounds a month for this. I would love change bank accounts, but we are worried that we wont get the same limit. can anyone recommend a bank which is better than HSBC?? can anyone offer any advice/help to us? I would be most grateful to anyone that can help. thanks. I dont know what to do and HSBC charges get on my nerves
LBM: April 2009 - honest debt figure: Secured: £0.00!! (paid back april 2017) unsecured: £53117.48 (roughly) back with CCCS starting again:(

When all's said and done, I'd say Halifax. And if you're always in credit, the free £5/month is hard to beat.
You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...
