Like others, the bits are drip feeding through and all I now require to register is an account number. These things normally work themselves out and I would bet this information arrives tomorrow. The bit I don’t get is that I have fourteen other current account debit cards. All have the account number on them. This new NW card is the only card that doesn’t and for the life of me I can’t understand why. If it did, I would have been up and running last week. Still, no rush I suppose, ho hum.

If you didn't get one in the post, you shouldn't need to have a signature specimen.

especially as everything else has arrived, I got a signature to sign before the account was opened. If you have everything you don't need a signature.

I did everything on line as a new customer. Account opened. On line banking activated. There was a secure message waiting for me in on line banking containing a specimen signature form which has to be sent be printed off, signed, and posted back.

Although I have already received a debit card!

Does anyone know how we stand with the tax situation for these switching incentive bonuses? I would imagine they don't count as savings interest, but do we have to declare them as other income, or are they tax-free?
As it's not an 'ongoing payment' you don't need to declare it. More info on the HMRC website.
  • Oh dear - almost a week after returning the first one I've weirdly received a second signature mandate....

And now two identical emails with, the same, new Customer Number.

    Its like Noahs Ark this.

Hopefully I don't stranded on Mount Ararat.

I asked the same question a few days ago. NW told me that they don't put the account number on the card for security reasons. It does not make sense to me. Every other debit card that I have got always has had the account number.

For those asking about the activation code for online access, please note that I have been told that you don't need an activation code as you can access online via the card reader. Should get my reader in the next 2 days.

There is a way to get online access with your debit car (don't need a card reader or activation code) and your customer number, account number and sort code. Please don't ask me how as I can't remember. I have had online access for a few days.
  • I am having difficulty registering for Natwest online banking. I've received the debit card and PIN but you need your account number to register. The thing is, the card itself doesn't have the account number on (unlike every debit card from every bank I've used before), and the account number isn't on any of the letters I've received from Natwest. Where do you find your account number?

    Phone them and ask.

My son had a problem a few years ago when getting a new mobile phone in a store and needing his account number for the direct debit. He just went to a NatWest branch up the street and the cashier got him to put his debit card and PIN in their machine and she gave him his account number.

This is worth a try if you haven't received your welcome pack and are near a branch tomorrow.

Thought it was too good to be true...

After lots of the problems already reported on here, eventually got a debit card which enabled me to register for internet banking.

Logged on, made test payment £10, arrived OK at destination account.

Downloaded app, made test payment to same account £15 - didn't arrive.

Waited until next day, called NatWest, they said the £15 payment had been blocked by fraud dept!

Deep sigh - called fraud dept, and answered all questions including middle 8 digits of debit card and how old I'd be next birthday.

Came back I'd failed the answers - all access blocked (internet and app) - have to go in to branch with passport and council tax bill (proof of address).

You know, I just LOVE Starling and Monzo...
  • Hi guys,

    Long time forum lurker here!

I'm looking to switch over to this Natwest bank account for the incentive, but I've recently done the same thing with First Direct for a £100 bonus.

So I started with a Halifax account, switched to a First Direct account, and am now planning to switch to a NatWest account.

My question is, if I go ahead with this second switch to a NatWest account, and someone pays money into my Halifax account, will it end up in my NatWest account via my (now closed) First Direct account.

At the moment if someone pays money into my Halifax account it does end up in my First Direct account, I'm just concerned that this behaviour might stop if I switch to yet another account.

I guess my other question would be is there a limit to the amount of times you can do this? Say I switched 6 times, would money paid into my original Halifax account make it into my final account for the 3 years promised by the switch guarantee?

Please let me know if I'm not being clear, I'm keen to discover an answer to this question.

    Cheers all
