I do not understand why you think there should be. It is clear from the wording of subsection (b) that you qualify if you have (their word) an existing account at the time of the switch application.
The terms are clear and unambiguous, as I said. Clause 1 is an either/or statement.ValiantSon wrote: »or hold an existing account (subsection (b)) and complete a full account switch; deposit £1,500; and log into online or mobile banking by 16th March 2018?
No, I maintain my disagreement. Section (b) does not use any wording relating to having an 'existing account' opened before the promotion started, despite you referring to an "existing account" multiple times.
The (b) clause that it asks you to fulfil is very simple:
(b) "have a NatWest [of types] account"
It doesn't say "have an existing account before the promotion started", it merely says "have an account".
Even if I opened my account on 1 March, then I did indeed "have a NatWest account" as stated in (b), and, by that wording, would satisfy that sole criteria. And the same for anyone who opened their account 5 years ago.
If (b) only applies to 'existing accounts', it should say 'have an account opened before (start date of promotion)'. But it just doesn't say that.ValiantSon wrote: »It is clear from the wording of subsection (b) that you qualify if you have (their word) an existing account at the time of the switch application.0 -

Exactly - existing at the time of the switch application. So if you only opened an account on 1 March and switched on 10 March, that still qualifies the wording of (b).
I'm sorry, but you are just wrong about this.0 -
Can't wait until 13th April so I can close my NatWest account (or, more accurately, switch it). They are easily the worst bank I have had the misfortune to deal with (and that includes HSBC).0

All you need to do to prove me wrong is post the wording from section (b) that disallows those that opened an account from 17 February to 16 March from matching it.0 -

It seems to me that to take advantage of the offer under section 1(b), that the critical date is actually 16 March. By that date you must have fulfilled the following:
* complete a full switch of a non-NatWest account to your eligible
account using the Current Account Switch Service;
* deposit £1,500 into your eligible account; and
* log into our online or mobile banking service.0 -
"1. Who's eligible for the offer?
You're eligible for this offer if you:
(a) apply for a Select, Reward, Reward Silver, Reward Platinum or Reward Black account ('eligible account') via natwest.com or through the NatWest mobile app between 10 January and 16 February 2018; or
(b) have a NatWest Select, Reward, Select Silver, Reward Silver, Select Platinum, Reward Platinum, Black or Reward Black account ('eligible account'),
AND before 16 March 2018 you:..."
Here is another plausible interpretation:
The words imply you can open the eligible account after Feb 16 by means other than via NatWest.com or the app... ie in branch, by telephone etc?0 -

The terms are written in such a way as to exclude opening an account via branch or telephone. Therefore one can reasonably assume from the way they are written that this incentive is aimed soley at online/app openings only.
There may be some who have opened their accounts in branch or via telephone. But the terms do not state those methods of opening as options, and therefore, as I see it, Natwest could refuse payment of the incentive to anyone opening an account using one or other of those methods.
It would be stretching the point even further to suggest that one could be entiitled to the incentive if the account was opened via app or telephone after 16 Februray.0 -

They cannot be worse than Barclays.0 -

If it was trying to say by online or app application by 16 Feb, but also available to existing customers with eligible accounts... they could just say that. Therefore one can reasonably assume from the way they are written that this incentive is aimed soley at online/app openings only. There may be some who have opened their accounts in branch or via telephone. It wouldn't as that is stated under A, not excluded under B.
But where the debate started & what you have to agree with is the terms are badly written.0 -
Is this switch offer still available?0
