You need to write to B&Q and get your shoes paid for! I hope you left some nice painty footprints through the store!

I've found B&Q to be better priced than Focus. I've found Wickes to be cheaper than both. B&Q are so expensive though for sure. Last time I went there was to get a club hammer. I thought that seeing as they can be around £6-7 for a small one, they'd be a tenner in B&Q. Wrong - nearly £14!
    Back out the door.

I tend to use the merchants on the industrial estate. Otherwise I'll club together with workmates and order from Screwfix. There's always someone with a diy project on so we can save the delivery cost between us.

B&Q dont own screwfix they are part of Kingfisher B&Q and screwfix are under the same umbrella (Kingfisher).

My local stores have great customers service and always willing to help. i did have to complain to the customers services dept by letter i got a fast response and some vouchers. Excellant Service.
Never let go of you dreams
  • Are you aware that B&Q recently shocked the city with a bad set of financial results and blamed it on the declining housing market..They have recently had a clear out at board level as a result..My own view..They used to be very good and extremely competitive...The "If you can find the item cheaper anywhere else we will gladly refund" was reassuring. But like other posters I really do everything I can to avoid B&Q because of their ridiculous prices...My recent example..Bathroom pull down light broke. B&Q price 6.89 ...Wilkinsons price for near identical £1.29 !! ..On this basis I can afford for 5 Wilkinsons to fail before I am out of pocket :)

    Avoid like the plague!!!!!

Its not really any different from SUPERMARKET shopping. Each will have their deals. Most sell fast moving stuff cheap.
    bedding plants,cement ,plasterboard,tiles,paint,bathrooms,kitchens,boilers etc
Its when you go to buy the "anyulneeds" that you get ripped.

Firstly, B&Q's stores are not all Warehouses, they are mostly smaller supercentre stores. Secondly they are NOT a monopoly.

I disagree, B&Q have the cheapest prices, they check their prices regularly. They offer a price promice against competitors to ensure customers never lose out. Also you cannot compare Wilkinson prices against B&Q's because Wilkinson sell crap which breaks in 2 seconds.

My local B&Q have brilliant staff, they are incredibly helpful and will go out of their way for customers.

Sorry Nebsta but B&Q ARE a rip off I bought 2 packs of 12v 5w replacement garden light bulbs paid £4.98 per card of 2---total £9.96---OUCH!!
Went to Local independant electrical shop and got 2 for £1.84!!!!! :j ---Straight back to B&Q " price promise please, I want these just bought at £1.84 each and 10% off for price match "----stored ummed and ahhd and then refunded me the difference --£6.64 in total!!
store then said "well its the packaging that makes it so expensive!! My reply was unprintable but started with a B but no Q in it.
By the way Wilkinsons DO NOT sell "crap" and they are (s)miles cheaper than B&Q !!! Unfortunately they did not stock the garden bulbs I was after otherwise they would probably have been cheaper than the independant as well !!

    Agree 100%.
  • Wilkinsons sell branded goods much cheaper than elsewhere as well as their own brand.

The good examples here of massive rip-off pricing at B&Q are exactly the sort of thing I had in mind when starting this thread. As for the B&Q price guarantee offer, I suspect they know full well that only very few customers take them up on it, with the result that the pay-out must be quite low. So the grand claim looks good but doesn't cost them much. Moreover, it helps persuade (mislead) people that everything must be cheap at B&Q in the first place.
