Another mug lumbered with slow broadband

This time its Madasafish.
I've been getting only a pathetic speed of less than 1mbps (between 0.69 & 0.83) which is nearly 90% below the promised 8mbps.
My exchange is less than 1.5m from my house and the website DSL Zone says that my line is capable of 4.5 Mbps or above.
So far Madasafish has stated that it's me turning off my router when I'm finished which is causing the slow speed. Of course I turn off my PC when I'm finished! There may be some truth with this but it can't be completed blamed for such rubbish speeds.
I've been through their somewhat pointless trouble shooting exercises several times which have included re-syncing lines and leaving my router on for 3 days solid. All this made no difference whatsoever.
I'm paying 14 pounds a month for less than 1mbps which is totally unexceptable.
I've asked them to send me their terms & Conditions so I can get out of the contract with them but they of course failed to do so and would rather blame me for it instead.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

No suggestions, sorry can only commiserate and say been there too.
The problem got better for a while, but this last week i am down to 1.7 meg, and today just over 1 meg. Was getting 3 meg about 10 days ago.
Madasafish could offer no solutions - it was my fault too !!!!0 -

I doubt very much you would have been promised 8MB. Maybe speeds of UP TO 8MB but not 8MB as the results from the website DSL zone verify you cant get 8MB. As for what it says there is still a load of factors that could cause enough interference to drag your line down.So far Madasafish has stated that it's me turning off my router when I'm finished which is causing the slow speed. This actually has some relevence. Try syncing the line at around midnight or very early morning when less people are on. If I switch mine on at peak hours it syncs at 10MB and syncing at 1AM gives me 13MBI've asked them to send me their terms & Conditions so I can get out of the contract with them but they of course failed to do so and would rather blame me for it instead..
I dont see how this would help unless they have a guaranteed lower limit as they would have probably agreed to supply broadband of UP TO 8MB. The best bet might be to see if they have a lower speed package and downgrade.
Alternatively.. get a mates router and see if there is any difference. Some routers have trouble with low SNR values and will not sync at the line speed. Netgear routers have been known to have a stable connection at SNR values of below 2 and can actually be hacked to increase speed on the line overwriting the SNR defaults0 -
Does the speed improve if you unplug all phone extensions and plug your router directly into the BT Primary socket in the house?
Can you borrow another modem or router to prove that yours is ok?0 -
Spot on Sco0ter, no ISP promises 8mbps ist always up to 8mbps.
If you have it in writeing somewhere they say it will be 8mbps then you can use it to get out of the contract but I doubt it says that anywhere.
Change your router and stop switching the thing off all the time the sync to maximum speed can take a while. and I live about 100m from the exchange and I only get 7.2mbps0 -
How do you measure your broadband speed - i have used several sites that do speed tests but the results never seem to mean much to me and I can never seem to tie them back to my supposed broadband speed - Am I just being thick ?0

phenia123uk, the one Ilike to use is www.speedtest.co.uk You need to register free and then it logs each speedtest you make allowing you to check at various times and possibly work out when the busiest times are. My tests vary between 1 meg and 6 meg0

I never use the speed test sites... For one, the max I have ever got on a speed test shows my donload speed as 7MB whereas downloading from decent servers I get download speeds of 1.3MBps and just to verify that I downloaded a game demo the other night (fifa 08) 645MB and it took 11 minutes.0 -
BTW while we are on the subject. According to samknows I am 1.68Km from my exchange. Ihave a maximum line speed of 5Mb and I get 13MB on easynet LLU. Remember the results you get are only guide lines0
