I've ordered the same freezer - it's such a bargain though so I'm not surprised it's out of stock all the time!!
I'm so looking forward to it arriving - FIL took out one of my low cupboards in the kitchen to make room for it - and then in truly OS style I asked him not to ditch it so I could use the wood to add extra shelves in the broom cupboard and some more shelves for cookery books (they're taking over the kitchen) he even made the shelves there and then for me!!!
I have yet to convince OH about getting a breadmaker though!!FebGC

You're right to be excited about your freezer. I'm still happy with the 25 year old large upright freezer we have in our garage which has never gone wrong. It's packed to overflowing with home grown vegetables & soft fruit, chicken stock made from free carcasses donated by our friendly butcher and batches of home cooked meals. I fear it giving up the ghost as I've read that modern day freezers often arn't suitable for cold places, but I wish our freezer had that modern day facility - pull out drawers instead of its fixed shelves, which does make it more difficult to rotate stock properly. I regularly find odd little packets of home grown veggies dating back two or three years, despite trying to keep an updated freezer inventory on our kitchen pinboard. Enjoy your new appliance!0

I've got a small one in my garage that my Mum gave me. At the moment, it is full with Mr T's chicken, and Asda, bread, butter and milk, which were all on ofer!I Believe in saving money!!!:T
A Bargain is only a bargain if you need it!0 -

Its fab! Massive, huge for the price! The best bit is as the fridge is on the top (old one was below) I don't have to bend to get things in. The old veggie drawer was a bit beyond me. Kept thinking I was a sad old bat (I am) but look!!! Its got a shelf for ice cubes, a drawer I've put himself's beer in and masses of room in the freezer.0 -
I've done a search, but could only find items about what people had in their freezers - not on whether or not I should buy one! However, if I've put this in the wrong place, please move!
A bit of background: house is me, DH, DS (5) and DD (2). I'm self-employed and DH is a stay-at-home Dad. I've posted on and off on OS - I don't do the cooking but am responsible for the budgeting and also for baking. At present, thank goodness, things are OK - but I'm very aware that when this contract ends, I don't know when the next one will be and I think it would be sensible to be prepared. Not only that, but obviously it's best to make our money stretch as far as possible whether we have lots or none!
Anyway, DH and I have been trying to decide whether or not to buy a chest freezer. We have a good size under-counter freezer (JL self de-frosting one) and I've been trying to persuade DH to batch-cook. However, he often says that there's not enough room in the freezer (which there isn't). He and I have said that if we had a chest freezer, then we could bulk buy meat either when it's on offer or else from Costco, and also could make litres of soup (our absolute favourite lunch!), batch cook and freeze bread etc.
I like the thought of this - it seems sensible. However, there's the outlay of a chest freezer and the cost of running it (we'd have to have it in the garage which also seems to not always be the best place to put it) - and would we really save that much? Or is this just a false economy?
I have dreams of, when I'm 'between jobs' doing lots of baking and things so that we don't have to worry - but I'm not sure if this is worth it or not.
I'd very much appreciate any advice anyone has out there ...0 -
I couldn't live without mine now! I actually have no clue how I fed a family of 7 without it!0

I have a fridge freezer in my kitchen and a chest freezer which is in the garage. It holds most of the produce from the garden and I only put one or two of each item in the fridge freezer. Makes it much easier to find stuff in a hurry. Also make sure as you put items in the freezer that you keep a list so you know what you have. Found 4 tubs of hagan daaz icecream at the bottom of my freezer the other day. :cool:0
