I have a fridge freezer in my kitchen and a chest freezer which is in the garage. ... Found 4 tubs of hagan daaz icecream at the bottom of my freezer the other day.

Good to know yours is OK in the garage, gives me hope ours would be too!

It'd be worth buying one just to find the hagan daaz though - do they all come with that hidden extra?:rotfl:

If the freezer is too cold in the winter in the garage ( north of Scotland ) here so very cold just put an old blanket over the top. My last freezer lasted over 18 years and then I gave it to a pal. We transported it wedged 1 corner on a skateboard and wheeled it across a school playground in the dark to her house. Just as well I knew the jannie as he might have wondered what we were up to if he had watched on cct camera. :rotfl:

    Hi locutus,

I have both a chest freezer and a fridge freezer in my garage and have had no problems apart from having to go out late at night in all weathers to get food out for the next day. My chest freezer has been there for 15 years!

My chest freezer saves a fortune because I can bulk cook and bake and also pick up reduced items that I would have to leave if I didn't have the freezer space to store them. The only slight disadvantage with a chest freezer is that unless you are well organised it can be difficult to remember and find what you have in there.

These earlier threads may help you to decide whether it would work for you:

Is it worth buying a chest freezer?

Is it worth having a second freezer

No, mine didn't :( Should I ask for my money back?

Mine's in my garage too and is absolutely fine there. I would definitely buy one if I were you I could not manage without mine.

I use it for storing meat and fish I've bought in bulk, gluts of fruit- stewed or raw, chicken stock, soup, leftovers, cakes, muffins etc, bread, breadcrumbs, pastry, crumble topping, tomato/pizza sauce, milk, cooked pulses, a finely chopped veg mixture based mostly on onions that I use as a short cut for soups, stews, curries etc, veg, ginger, chillies, over-ripe bananas, homemade ice creams and sorbets and ice!
  • Thanks for all your help. Am convinced it's the right thing to do - so have bought one from John Lewis.

It arrives next Friday. Very excited!!

Thanks for all the advice - will be filling it up forthwith!
  • Hi

I have a small under counter freezer in the kitchen, then a HUGE chest freezer in the office. There are only 3 of us but we invested in a savaplug which cost about £15 but only uses minimal electric to keep the freezer ticking over so our electric bills have actually decreased.

Ooh - I've never heard of a savaplug.

*Goes off to search for more info on Google*
  • I have a fridge freezer and large upright freezer which I would gladly swap for a chest freezer - Uprights are ok if you want to find something in a hurry but they don't hold nearly as much as a chest freezer
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Don't waste your time, if they actually do do what they claim to do then they are just doing what the fridge/freezer is designed to do anyway.

If you do waste your time, notice how many times they are out of stock on sites that are selling them. And the number of sites that say the model they are selling is discontinued. Most importantly, take notice of all the discussions about them on sites that are not trying to sell them.
