I am looking to visit Vegas next Feb/Mar

couple of things I could do with some guidance on as a first time visitor

Mandalay bay or the Luxor hotel ? ( Looking at budget ranges but mandalay is pricing well)

Secondly - Will the outdoor pools be operational at this time of year ?

If mandalay bay is similar price to Luxor, there is no contest, Mandaly Bay everytime.

as for the pools , most outdoor pools open in end of March/April

Usually Luxor is cheaper than Mandalay. Overall Mandalay is the better property (bigger rooms, more restaurants, bigger casino, more shops) but some feel the location is a little bit isolated.
Although it is connected via a tram with Luxor/Excalibur it is far away from the action of the Las Vegas Strip. Just consider this for your decision. So, Luxor for location, Mandalay for the rest :).

I have so much to learn

There is so much choice , I have been advised the LINQ is a good choice and can also get a good deal on the Mirage

Anyone know if outdoor pools will be operational ? and average temps Jan/Feb/Mar

If you can get a good deal on the Mirage then I would definitely choose over both the Luxor and Mandalay Bay.
Have stayed in all 3 and in my opinion it is the nicest. Also location is far better than the other 2.

The good prices you are getting for these hotels, have you factored in the resort fees ?

Yes, if you can get the Mirage go for it for sure. Far better location, especially for a first timer.

Most pools are closed for maintenance (and because it's no pool season) in Jan/Feb/Mar. Some resorts like Bellagio or MGM have one open at least.

    Right then guys, ideas! :)
For those that have done some driving in the past, is this do-able do you reckon...!! (21st September)

Direct Flight with Virgin = land at 1pm...
Should be out of airport and at car rental for 2:15pm
On road and ready to roll by 2:30pm (10:30pm UK time)

Drive from Vegas to Barstow, then upto Bakersfield (big coffee break!), and then onto Fresno, which in theory should take just under 6hours with 390 miles to cover.....
    Thoughts ? :)

(am toying with the idea of going through Yosemite and onto Mammoth again, then back to Vegas via ET Highway over a 2 night road trip, or 3 night maybe... That's 1 night in Fresno, and 1 night in Mammoth Lakes)

Will you be able to sleep on the plane? I!!!8217;d do it if I could guarantee a few hours kip en route. Sadly I can never sleep on a plane, so it would be a no from me.
