  • I have succesfully got the half price connection offer from BT. They were not going to offer me it themselves but after reading of the offer on this site, i looked it up on BT's website where it can be found on the BT price list section. When BT told me that the connection fee would be £124.99 I to;ld them about the offer and they agreed straight away, so don't wait for them to offer it to you....because they won't!!
  • Also found this BT Notice about the half-price offer:
"44/07 BT Together Option 1, 2 or 3 - Half Price Line Connection Special Offer"

It is being used as a way to save a sale. This also comes with and 18 month contract on either Option 1, 2 or 3 but at there normal prices. There is no spread connection, it has been removed and cannot be provided on WLR3.

The spread connection is still there on the older system (which is used for older customers doing a homemove for example), WLR3s system has the button for spread connection...it just doesnt seem to do anything yet.

OK, I'm going through this myself and was offered the half price deal on the phone. I rejected it because I'd be stuck for 18 months with BT, and they charge £3.40 or so per month for evening and weekend calls. With PlusNet, my ISP, I'd pay £105 for connection but only £9.99 a month for free evening and weekend calls, including line rental! over 18 months I'd be better off with PlusNet, and their way superior customer service!

The only thing is, will the extortionate connection charge be dropped soon? In the Guardian last Saturday a BT spokesman said ""Where a customer is returning to join BT from a local loop unbundled competitor, our systems default to charging £125. We do intend to change this as soon as possible. It is one of a number of complex changes arising from BT Retail's adoption of a new IT system to comply with its commitment to the regulator, Ofcom."

I am moving to a house which had a Tiscali line three months ago, hence the sting for £125 connection. But will this charge be dropped soon? If so, should we wait???

You should have taken the offer - you can get evening and weekend calls free with a BT line (BT Together Option 1) and Primus Saver Option 2 CPS.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Thanks Heinz - its a thought. May use that as leverage to lower PlusNet's charge though as would rather have everything on one bill....

PlusNet won't match the BT half price (18 month contract) offer because they are charged the full price by Openreach. I'm now mulling on this as I would get free daytime calls to my Dad with PlusNet as he is also with them, so it's a case of paying PlusNet £40 more now for 18 months of free calls to Dad (call quite a lot for business). That's £2.22 a month calls to Dad. Tough one, but I think the PlusNet customer service may win through......I don't know, were things not simpler in the old days eh??

My friend was quoted £124.99 today to get line connection, she is in a new house and the phone socket is not connected to the mast. The engineer is booked for Tuesday 20th to carry out the work, do you think if she calls back about this half price line rental she'll get it?

I rang up last night and they quoted me the same, but then i mentioned the half price line rental and they put me through to a different department and they gave it me. I am in a new build and never had a line in before so i was in the same situation. So got it for £62.50 with £11.00 monthly line rental and i didnt have to sign up to any prooducts so am going to shop around for internet and phone packages. Anyone know any good ones??

You will be tied to BT for line rental (which, despite what others might say, I still regard as the best option) for 18 months so, for voice telephony, you'll be looking to CPS your calls.

My recommendations are under the 'HERE' link in my signature below.

The other benefit of having a BT line is that you have the option to choose any of the ADSL broadband providers now in the market.
