Old Style Daily Wednesday 3rd January

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

I am up with the larks again this morning although I expect any self respecting lark will be still tucked up in bed or it would be blown away by the gale force wind currently whirling around outside. I have just let our cat in and very relieved he was too. I have been rewarded with lots of purrs and now he has curled up next to me to catch up on some sleep.

I had a good day yesterday at the hospital meeting my dietician. Really nice man with lots of helpful insights. I am going to be referred to the weight management group hopefully to start in the Spring, meanwhile I am going to chug along calorie counting to try and get healthier. I was absolutely shattered though when I got back as it is three bus journeys each way to and from the hospital and apparently I was blue with cold when I finally got back home.

I spoke to Becky last night and she seemed a lot happier and settled. She has had a fairly good couple of days and the staff are happier with her progress. I have had a couple of weepy days but I think it was the shock of last week finally coming out. Today is going to be a better day.

I am going to make a beef and vegetable lasagne for dinner tonight. I will have salad with mine and I will do a few chips for the family. Steve caught up with the washing while I was out yesterday so it's just a general tidy up needed.

Well, I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Morning DUMPLING. You sound a bit more positive this morning, despite your busy day on buses. I couldn't sleep for coughing - what's new. I am going to attempt to get an appointment today at the surgery. I did see the doctor 3 weeks into the virus (before Christmas) but he said there was nothing he could prescribe for a viral injection. It would run it's course eventually. Well it's now into week 7 and I have really had enough. I am worn out with coughing and have the energy for nothing. So I shall try again and see if he can offer a miracle cure.

I'll check back in later and let you know. Have as good a day as you can folks. I hope you have no gale damage it really sounds pretty horrendous out there but too dark to see. Take care all xx

    Morning everyone

dumpling - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark and very blustery here.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly, he goes back to college tomorrow.

Dinner was disjointed again last night - this is how it may be for a while, but this week on my days' off I want to get a bit more organised so I can have some meals ready prepped.

Work was busy yesterday - boss was excellent at changing my role so I could work on my own and get up and go if the need arose. But I also got told off for going in under the circumstances, but I would only have been at home, once I'd been there a little while and I'd started doing the work I was ok, and it was very busy so kept my mind occupied.

I had news from my bro early afternoon to say that mum had been moved out of critical care to a more normal ward, and that she was much improved. We went over last night and she was awake and we had some 2 way conversation that made sense and I fed her some dinner and she ate a whole tub of ice cream and a pot of jelly, and some of a bottle of water - in real terms not very much, but a massive improvement from where we were 2 days ago. She's obviously still very unwell but we're hoping this improvement continues, as we're fully aware there is going to be a limit to how much better she can get. The nurse did say last night she'd had a sleep in the afternoon and they had difficulty waking her - which is a worry, at times she is very unresponsive.

I'm in to work today - then working Saturday and then back Monday, I'll be spending some time at the hospital on Thursday and Friday during the day.

    Keep safe and well x

Morning all, thank you for starting the thread Dumpling. Things sound a bit brighter for you this morning.

TA you are right I think. Your virus could have moved into a bacterial infection which might respond to antibiotics, though I'm not a medical person that's just a suggestion

The storm is wild here, I stuck my head under the covers last night as it was so noisy and it is still blowing a hoolie but too dark to know if there is damage. I know from a local FB group that there has been damage in the wider city but no idea about the immediate neighbourhood.

I'm working at home today so at least shan't be blown off to the next county trying to reach the office.

Second load of washing is whizzing round now, I'm likely to run out of rack space soon. Ironing not done but that will have to wait until I finish work.

I am sending good wishes to all of us who are poorly, caring for other poorly peeps, worried or sad.

    Morning all

Blowing a hoolie here and has been all night it sounds dreadful out there I hope there is no damage. The lane to the car park at work is being resurfaced today so we have to park in a different place under the oak tree, I do hope its still standing  my aunt in Chicago messaged me a few days ago to say that is was -28 and they are advising people not to go out for longer than 1/2 an hour as they may get frost bite ! fortunately one of her dd's bought her a load of food in and she is just staying put and keeping warm, can you imagine it being that cold ?

Off to work for me again today, yesterday was not too bad and I am glad to be back in a proper sleep routine again.

Need to put the rubbish and recycling out in a while, did not put it out last night due to the wind although its not much better this morning, our recycling bin is chock full with another couple of bags to go in after.

Need to rummage in the freezer for something for dinner I think there are some meatballs in there which we could have with veg mash and gravy for a change.

Right better get on, hugs to all in need, have good days all xx

Just reporting in to tell you that someone round the corner's wheelie bin has blown over.

  • Morning all

Thanks for the thread Dumpling hugs to all those in need.

I read for most of the night, the wind and rain were so loud, I got up twice to check on a neighbour who was on her own last night.

DD has met the dog she's hoping to adopt, just the home visit and then she's theirs.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • Good morning all,

A much belated happy new year and I hope you all had a lovely Christmas. I've been really ill with flu plus a chest infection and been bed bound for quite some time. Today's the first I'm finally feeling a bit better.

So, how are we all? What have I missed?

Hope everyone manages to stay dry today, and heed AOD's advice and stay clear of wheelie bins!

Morning everyone and thanks for the start Dumpling, glad yesterday was helpful and Becky is having a better few days.
I do hope that the doc can help TA, it really must be dragging you down and that hardly helps with recovery.

Very blustery here too, have just been out and only damage so far is a pot that's blown over and smashed. Our sleep was very disturbed, we even had thunder and lightning at one point with the wind & rain, the house was shaking!
I have been trying to hold out to twelfth night but am now so fed up with the decorations they will be coming down today, the only thing that will be kept up is the twinkling lights around the fireplace, they make the room look so cosy during the long, dark evenings.
That's my plan for the today, do need to pick up some more bird food as our feathered friends are really going through but don't think I will be biking down to the village in this wind otherwise it will be like a scene from the Wizard of Oz :rotfl:

Have a good day folks x
