Today I received a letter by post from a solicitor regarding to a road traffic accident in Northern Ireland last July 2017. I provided the police officer with all information required and took take some photos using my personal mobile phone on the day - I was hit by the motorcyclist from the back out of the blue for no reason when I was driving the rented car (Hertz) on the road in the usual manner.
The letter was a very brief one:

1st paragraph included the name of the motorcyclist's name , home address and the accident road name etc;
3rd paragraph simply says "We would respectfully suggest that you forward a copy of this correspondence to your insurance without delay."
2nd paragraph:
"On the basis of our clients instructions this accident was caused solely by reason of your negligence in and about the driving, management, care and control of a motor vehicle, ,the property of Hertz and driven by you. We would ask you for you admission of liability and proposals for settlement of or clients claim."

I trust that Hertz claims team was able to obtain all the relevant reports from the local police for their investigations and assessment in order to finalise this claim. It is absolutely astonishing to receive this letter while I was the victim that my holiday in Belfast was completely ruined due to this unexpected accident. I was being so kind to the motorcyclist that I did not claim any further cost nor compensation from him or his insurance company considering his injury - If this is the way that he says "Thank you" as a return, I also consider appointing a solicitor if I continue to receive these unreasonable letters.

My questions are:

1) Should I reply to this solicitor or I should leave everything to Hertz claims team? The letter has an email address but I really do not want to keep receiving these nonsense emails;

2) Should I appoint a solicitor as well? I have come across so many "No win no fee" ad on google;

3) Should I consider claiming any compensations? To be perfectly honest, it was quite scary and the rented car was to be written off (as I was told by Hertz this is what they would do when I returned the vehicle). It was a huge shock to me mentally as well.

Thank you very much all.

I was trying to draw a pic to show how it happened and I have also uploaded a picture though I have no moto insurance knowledge to know whether the car would have been written off. I was told by Hertz it was likely to be the case when I returned the car to them after the accident.

    Without knowing the content of the letter, I don’t think anyone on here is going to be able to offer any constructive advice.

    Thank you for your reply - It was a rather brief letter and I have included the same above now.

    Thank you, the motorcyclist hit me straight into the back out of the blue - Luckily there was not cars in front of me. To be fair to the motorcyclist, it was an uphill for him but I was driving downhill and he simply drove too fast when he completely could not see what was in front of him. However, it was NOT ethical for him to ask me to admit liability while I was being kind not to claim anything from him. Legally, I also want an answer and am happy to go to court at the worst scenario.

    Hang on. The motorcyclist hit your car at the back, the motorcyclist was travelling uphill and your car was travelling downhill?

    Is that even possible?

    Regardless of the inconsistencies between the OPs posts......

    Forward the letter on to Hertz insurance (keep a copy for your records). Do not get into a dialogue with the other insurers/ solicitors.
