Some might argue that it's "theft by finding" but would anyone bother to challenge you? I would always respond that I intended to donate the proceeds to charity.

We do separate the 2p pieces for the arcades - on the basis that we're paying for a bit of entertainment and the possibility of a rubbish keyring is just a bonus. The tickets are just a distraction, so I gather them up and hand on to any deserving looking child on the way out. The other trick is to see if the arcade charges a deposit on the plastic tubs for coins - some do and some don't. And even when they do - some people forget and abandon their tub so you can pick up a stray one and cash it in if there'sni queue.

Reminds of being at a small festival years back where the plastic beer glasses had a 10p deposit. Many people just dumped them so enterprising youngsters were rounding them up and taking them back a dozen at a time.

Don't forget those supermarket trolleys folks - on Sunday I picked up an abandoned one in the street, wheeled it 250m round to the carpark to return it to JS and earned a pound for it.

Last month I found a whole fistful of small UK coins in the coinstar machine- about 25 pence in total. I rarely go where there is one, and loitering by it is a bit obvious!

I am contenting myself with till recipts- haven't totted it all up yet but it's not bad. I see I have netted £64 in Mr T vouchers!

I have also found 2 x £1 left in the changing cubicles at leisure centre lately. I usually forget and leave the token in the locker so it make a change to make a profit!!+

Is anyone out there still wombling?
As contestant No 8 I have netted £75.77 this year, well pleased but I'm sure I am not the winner.

Can anyone else write up their total before the year ends??

Of course I can Katie.... My last trip of the year past the Coinstar today has given me 1 US cent, 1 Canadian Cent and 70p in silver (mostly 5p pieces) so my total for the year is:

    £30.13 in usable currency
$4.65 and €6.86 which can be easily changed up to about £9.75
Plus the small stuff... S//0.10 (Ukrainian hryvnia) Bds$0.10 A$0.25 NZ$0.55 C$0.92 S$0.20 zl0.12 (Polish zloty) LB0.24 (Bulgarian lev) ISKr5.0 DKr1.0 CHF0.60 R0.10 (South African Rand) KD0.05 (Kuwaiti dinar) MDL0.25 (Moldovan leu) YUM 1.0 (Yugoslav dinar) which is about £1.50 worth.

So just over £40 from roadkill, trolley rescue and Coinstar. No points involved!

I thought about starting a new thread - but depends if anyone else wants to play.

First Coinstar hit of the year - 10p; 5 Australian cents and a new currency - 120 Yen. Quick bit of research required to a) find out whether it was Yen or Yuan and b) discover it's about 86p at yesterday's exchange rates.

  • Hi, I'd love to join in if there is a new thread. I'm just starting to get right into wombling, I always go out litter picking for the wildlife and things and I find loads of receipts there, sometimes a trolley with a pound in too!
