    A fortnight ago - on holiday in Suffolk I heard a group of teenagers discussing what they had just picked up on the pier - a dollar bill. Missed that one! However, yesterday the Coinstar gave me a New Zealand 50 cent piece - very similar to a 10p but worth nearer 25p.

    .. in the Coinstar yesterday. A Kuwait 50 fils piece. I had to Google it to work out the denomination as I can't read Arabic and I was excited to see the exchange rate at 1 Kuwaiti DInar = £2.52 or so. Then I discovered that it's 1000 fils to the dinar not 100 so it's 1/20 not 1/2 and is actually worth between 12 and 13 pence....

    25 bani (1/4 of a leu) from Moldova. xe.com tells me there are a bit over 20 Lei to the pound so this is worth 1.1p. Apparently there are smaller coins down to 1 bani - those must have more purchasing power back home ...

    The Coinstar has been very generous this week.

    Saturday: £3.90 [A pound coin, 90p in silver and 2 "round pounds" which have now been banked]

    Tuesday: £4.07 [2 2-pound coins and 7p in coppers]

    Late last night - the Coinstar gave to me...
    2 american cents;
    A Yugoslav dinar
    and a good old British halfpenny!

    So effectively it's $0.02 as the 1/2 p was demonetised in 1984 and the Yugoslav dinar died with the country.

    We're on a roll again - last night's gleanings - £2.10. That's a 10p and two pound coins - current ones, not round pounds!

    My wife uses a wheelchair so on a trip to Great Yarmouth she had lots of fun rolling around the cascade machines picking up missed 2p's and unclaimed prize tickets. I was amazed at the number she found and being in a chair was just the right height to see and collect them. More fun than feeding the machine anyway.
    Was it technically theft? Was wondering that about the coinstar machine as well. My local one is opposite the security guard station.
