I've got an overlong heavy curtain that we use inside our front door, except we haven't this year - thanks for the reminder @edinburgherSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far

I took a look at this again last night. There are two options - either bodge a curtain pole directly above the front door (there's already a wooden surround that would take the weight), or add a wooden batten higher above the door and attach to this. This would necessitate removing the guts of an old alarm system and I'm not particularly keen to disturb this. In any case, max cost likely to be c. £45 (batten, curtain rail, industrial strength grip adhesive, decorator's caulk and gloss paint for the batten) and I suspect this would pay for itself over one winter.

I also have a wooden pole with rings for my door curtain, on the outside of the recess, and there's just about room to pull it back and open the door all the way. I also added draft strip on the outside and inside the frame, put a keyhole cover both sides of the door (it kept getting left up on the outside) and use a fabric draught excluder at the bottom of the door. There are draughts in this house that have a mystery source!8

Well done on the skirtings, KC.
You can get a door curtain pole on a hinge, just to complicate things.6 -

We don't even use a curtain + pole. Dh cut down a broom handle, and I used safety pins to make a channel for the po!e to go through in a fleece blanket. There is no space whatsoever around our door - the ceiling come to the top of it and there are walls either side, so dh cut out some wood for the poles to sit in either side of the top of the door (just enough room either side for door to open when curtain is removed), plus a couple of biggish cup hooks on one wall to hang the curtain on when we're using the door. If it were a patterned blanket, I'd feel like a Tudor person, one with wall hangings!
