KC - our curtains are similar but solid colours rather than printed - they are only lightly lined and are all machine washable. I too was wary of the drycleaning bills so made sure to check the labels before purchasing. They are probably close to 10 years old but still look new! - That being said they only get washed once a year in warm weather so that they can air-dry in situ on their curtain rods.4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! All our curtains could do with being cleaned. I plan to wash them if we ever get any dry weather, I can't remember the last time it was dry all day 😢
Just to highlight how long it has been since I last washed any curtains would it be best to loosen the tape at the top so the pleats came out and adjust them again once they are dry or leave the pleats as is?Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

Thank you all so much for your support!
SL, please don't feel shamed by me! I'm not kidding when I say they've been up for 8 years. Probably 9, actually.
Alchemilla and RT - these are "lined", yes, but they're from Wilko or Dunelm, I forget which, at the cheaper end of the scale. Erm, they have plastic baubles on that are shiny and pretty 😂 that's just what I'm like, so when I wash them, its got to be 20 degrees max. RT mentions the answer - wash them in warm weather! I'll give them a shake outside when it isn't blowing a gale, vacuum the fittings, and put them back up till summer, I'll do the 20 degree wash then.
Baileys Babe, hiya - I have no idea about the tape loosening, sorry - though at low temperatures and hanging out in warm weather, I'm guessing not to bother with tape loosening? I have absolutely *no* intention of dry cleaning curtains, not now, not ever 😂
At the moment, the living room curtains, still on their pole, are draped over the bookcase I've been emptying. The bedroom curtains are washed (and ironed, good grief!) and draped over my 19th century clothes horse, and the bedroom linings have had a tiny little shake and they're folded over a chair somewhere. Don't even know where right now2023: the year I get to buy a car6 -
So, I managed to get to the Healthy Walk today, a good natter. I've completely missed out on the period when people were getting together socially after things starting up again, and I'm sort of "out of area" - that's life, I guess.
I "managed" today because I've unknowingly conducted a bit of self sabotage. I sort of made free with the anti-viral spray after the double glazing guy had been, and I've given myself a rollicking headache - so the windows are open, we'll see.
Anybody fancy going to Ukraine in May? My Norfolk rellies are on a cruise that ends in the Black Sea, near Ukraine ... do I fancy going? Erm, not right now, frankly, for many reasons, and avoiding getting caught up in global shenanigans is one of them
Anyway, because of the headache, I'm ignoring my to-do list, and just faffing for the rest of the day. Will have a look on here, but oops, need to plug my laptop in first ...2023: the year I get to buy a car7 -
A friend who makes curtains (and has made some for me) says that they shouldn't be washed or dry cleaned, just hoovered where they are hung with the upholstery attachment on the hoover. So for anyone not wanting to wash them, feel free to follow that advice7

That's interesting! I think I feel more comfortable washing mine for the moment, as they've been hanging on double glazing thats blown in various ways, and you can actually see the dirt on the lining
but once the new windows are in, I'll be happy to follow that advice, thanks greenbee.

Now then ... jobs for today:
- video what I want bruv to do to the bookcase, and send it up there, at his request.
- research charging points, not just Tesla (we know of one, but there are others that aren't *meant* for Tesla, but that Tesla can use. I think. Apparently.
- make sure everything in the garden that can blow around has been put somewhere safe.
- vac the curtain pole in the living room, shake the curtains that are draped over the bookcase, and return them to the pole. While there's sunshine.
- put the slow cooker on for the beans I soaked overnight.
- 3rd physical job, so I'm not sure I'll do it today, is to clean the hob. It *has* to be done before bruv and sister come to my house, which is any time from Tuesday onwards, so ... not sure, basically2023: the year I get to buy a car4 -
