Genuinely chortling out loud at the idea of describing myself as a taxi driver in the West Midlands, complete with ethnic surname
Actually, my *real* surname is comparatively uncommon here down south, and it can get mistaken for various ethnic names
Today, I'm slowly packing, *still* cleaning and clearing away early December food shops.
I'd like to phone SSE, as I have shares and I absolutely can't make my brain work out what I should declare, mostly because I re-invest the money in new shares. I gave up years ago, and I just phone them up. Even though I hate phoning companies, this particular experience has always been good.2023: the year I get to buy a car3 -
Just spent 38 min of my life on the phone to HMRC chasing up my simple assessment bill for 20/21. They won't let me file self assessment anymore. Well they seem to have decided that they can deduct the tax I owe from my private pension, except they are already taking the max 50% from that already. It seems the system didn't notice that minor hitch. They will have to bill me NEXT year as they can't change this year. Thankfully it is where I can get at it. I'd laugh if I wasn't so exhausted by it!

Oh my god, what a nightmare! Having just had my own saga of incompetence from sainsbury mastercard, I feel your pain, I really do. So sorry to hear of it2023: the year I get to buy a car1

Well, here we are ... the end of 2021. And I thought I wasn't counting 2020! I've tried to do well with 2021, and it hasn't been too bad, but I really, really want 2022 to be even better. Still mulling behind the scenes, but my focus right this very moment is preparing to petsit. Mull ... mull ... mull ... doing something every day towards both short term goals, and long term goals.
So, Happy New Year to us all: the health, the wealth, the happiness. Not laying out detailed plans right now, because I'm not going to skimp on actual preparations for actual events - I learned that, finally
Here we go.2023: the year I get to buy a car6 -

Very wise to focus on preparing. Hopefully you'll have plenty of time to ponder while pet sitting! 😊2

Good morning lovely ones! Happy New Year's Day, and Happy 2022 to us all.
I'm sort of packing, and once a room is cleared, I'm running the vacuum over the place quickly, just to get rid of the layers of dustdon't want to come home to that lot, after all.
I'm doing well - kept up last month's Regular Saver payment by the skin of my teeth (the 29th!). Paid a building management fee to France as well. Previous attempts to log on to my sister's wifi haven't been successful, so it's important to get the big stuff out of the way - I've only got 9GB of mobile data, so I'll need to be careful. Though logging on to her computer might work.
Anyway, still going at it, going to get the current deluge of dust out of the vacuum and start again. So glamorous. And enjoyable2023: the year I get to buy a car2 -
Happy New Year all.
Quick question. I didn't realise that a self assessment is required once you receive your pension. Am I missing something?Goals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2003 -
starnac, it's because I have the French apartment as an investment - if I was a straightforward pensioner-with-savings, I could probably manage to get them to stop requiring a self assessment. It's an awful lot easier than it used to be, so I don't really mind, though I do reserve the right to grumble **terribly**2023: the year I get to buy a car3
