Hi Cheery
yes it was great. I was sitting right by my heather, which is in full bloom, and a couple of honey bees were on it as well as a very persistent bumblebee, it was wonderful to watch them so close up.

Right, feeling slightly more human today, but its going to mostly be a catchup day, I didn't even feel well enough to load the dishwasher. Fortunately, for this evening I have the 3rd portion of the nut loaf I finally made, so that's something.
I decluttered some cassette tapes ... huge names in filk, which is original music in science fiction fandom: Jordin Kare, Julia Ecklar. There's at least one that I'd like to replace with an MP3 download from Amazon ... I'm a bit torn, need to wait. There's also the odd song uploaded to youtube, I used to listen to some of these every day. Mmmmmm.
Okay. At the very least, I need to put the dishwasher on. And change my sig on here to Bunny Hugger.

Did you want to transfer the cassettes to a digital format?I have the means to do so, if you want me to... xNST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!3

Aw, thank you apple, thats kind - no, I won't, thank you. There's an MP3 file for one of them, a youtube file for another (the scientist - and tbh, he's not a very good singer, he was just incredibly creative). I'm going to spend a tenner to get the songs I really love: the MP3 file, Divine Interventions by Julia Ecklar, plus two of her songs: He's Dead, Jim (Star Trek Classic
) and I Hate Little Fire Lizards, a skit on the world of Pern. Science fiction fans can easily accept merciless mockery when they trust the one doing the mocking
This afternoon, I've just been doing a tiny bit of tidying, and a bit more decluttering - half a dozen books. I have plans to cut down my *enormous* bookcase so it will fit into an alcove, which means I can get a nicely spacious settee into my living room, not a tiny 2 seater. That was just like reading a foreign language in terms of my knowledge or visibility of these aspects of the genre

I did recognise "He's dead Jim" from Scotty talking to William Shatner

I know, SL, it's incredibly niche, even within science fiction fandom, which says something. And yes, "he's dead, Jim" is a quote from the tv show, along with "the engines cannae take it, captain"
Woo hoo to you for recognising it
I need to try to rescue some of the seeds I planted last week - I swear, I'm so useless at growing seedlings. I think, this year, I should have invested in a couple of grow lights. Too cocky by half! So next week, my sister and I are taking a trip to our usual garden centre, just south of here, near a lovely little wood maintained by the Woodland Trust. Fantastic day out.2023: the year I get to buy a car3 -
I've always been haphazard at seedlings too KC
Doing pretty well this year - I think because I'm here every day and have got into a habit of checking morning and night, and occasionally at lunchtime too. I'm still covering with fleece every night, and uncovering in the morning, watering every day, repotting as soon as they seem to have big roots. Lots of attention! Made me realise how much I usually neglect them...

Thanks for that, Cheery. I'm getting a bit of a lightbulb moment about this ... I can't do all of that, not if I'm going to look after myself and cook a bit more. I *will* try to grow some courgettes - the seeds are really big, I think? But all this little stuff, I'm just not going to do it, it's become more of a "should" than a "want", and that's no good.
I'm going to sprout the tiny seeds - I *can* do that, I've done it before. I have an online friend a year older than me who's given up on growing foody plants altogether: I don't want to do that, I like perennials, the herbs, the fruit, the garlic, the comfrey, all of that, and as I say I *will* try the big-seeded veg. I'm feeling lighter as I'm typing this, let alone after I've posted it, so I'm sure it's the right decision. I'll carry on debrambling the garden, of course - not going to let them win now
I managed to get out for a walk this afternoon, which was brilliant in the sunshine ... I walked one of my normal routes, through a little suburban estate to a duckpond. And I saw a couple of **goats** in somebody's garden! A back garden that verges onto the road. We had quite a conversation 🐐🐐 it was very surprising. But wonderful. The ducks were a-dabbling, and it was even better than that2023: the year I get to buy a car6 -
