Thank you both, that's very kind. I very nearly fell asleep in the afternoon, but thats ok, sister does that too! Age shall not weary us, not quite so
New Year's Eve! Good heavens! Very cold here, and this is mostly a tidying up day. Sky Arts decided to put itself onto Freeview, so I've been listening to the Mamas and Papas, which is lovely. Leftover half-bottle of sweet wine will be opened, we'll see whether it's drinkable tonight. Washing machine is on, I *may*, just *may*, test whether I can work with RT's cornbread muffin recipehere's hoping.
Happy New Year's Eve, to one and all

Just seen Shanghai Jimmy's "only positives" list for 2020. Such a good idea! Here goes:
- I got a holiday in, to a place I'd never been before, and I saw porpoises in the English Channel.
- I got a new router, free of charge - my internet connection had been stuttering for years, and I fixed it!
- managed to get a few workmen in to do some important stuff: a new lock in the front door (again, stuttering for years since a friend and I tried to force the wrong key, very important), a new fence, a replaced front gate, a mended side gate. All greatly adding to ease and security.
- my health improved, eg doing that 2 hour walk yesterday. Further to go, but I'm on the way.
- lockdown has given me a chance to sit down and really think about what I *want* to do, not just what's in front of me. Absolutely crucial. It's also meant I've chatted much more with a couple of neighbours, which has been a real boon, and managed a few more phone conversations than I usually do, also brilliant.
- some finances work done, there were quite a few accomplishments, and the biggest thing of all is that I finally got my state pensionwoo hoo. Not received it yet, but I decided to have a ball with the few sets of Christmas presents I buy, I bought like I used to, it was really nice, and all of it was online.
I think there's more, but that will do for now

Great positives there Karma.... not only a holiday, but a cruise and unaffected by Covid - not sure when anyone will be going on one of those again! There's definitely plenty of positives to be found in 2020, despite the awful situation - maybe not for everyone, but for most.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

So true, madvix - I hope the list didn't sound like boasting, though. Jimmy's list was about the positives, and I went with that.
Just as an example, the holiday *was* affected by covid: we cancelled some trips, we were barred from disembarking at Lisbon, and we were frightened silly when we heard that a Spanish coastguard helicopter was coming to take off a passenger who'd fallen ill - the ship was in uproar, and they had to make a further announcement that it wasn't covid related. We *ran* off the ship at Southampton to get an early train home, but surprisingly the train journey felt very safe - because people had stopped commuting, and were already staying at home. *So* glad to get to my house! Getting indoors from all of that is also another positive.
Oh, and another positive - saw my brother for a couple of days, and my Norfolk rellies for a couple of hours, all courtesy of lots of driving. A real boon, as a non-driver.2023: the year I get to buy a car5 -

Hi, Karma, hope 2021 treats you well. I saw your list of things to do for 2021, so you will be busy if nothing else!
I've just posted my plan for 2021. To be honest, there's not much on it, but I thought it best to keep things simple, what with the way things are.Early retired - 18th December 2014
