Karmacat said:I'd never seen them as a child - in spite of being in the brownies! But as soon as I *did* see them, I realised how incredibly useful they are. I'll put a pic up on here now that's easier to do - I cut the material into 3 this morning, needle, thread and pins are sitting there too. I'm kind of glued to my armchair today, waiting for this humongous wholesaler order.

I remember my Gran using them for her bedside table water glass and jug - she used to crochet a beaded edge onto a double layer of netting.4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! I once sold off quite a lot of decluttered items at country car boot sales. I used to enjoy them as if the weather was nice there were lots of friendly browsers and buyers to chat to. I once had a lot of bead necklaces to get rid of, often broken. I was only asking pennies for them, I couldn't see anyone wanting them. It surprised me how many ladies snapped them up and they often said they only wanted them for the beads to make the sort of covers you're all talking about.4

Gosh, that’ll be another casualty of the pandemic - car boots! 😔 love a good car boot (for selling and people watching!).Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

So interesting, thanks for all that! I'm more sensible than I knew, to be making one! I snipped the material into a proper shape, and I've pinned the hem, and thats it right now ...RT, my word, you do hitt sometimes? I respect that! And yes, being remote must be really something in these days. There's often nobody in my road when I go out - though the roads on either end of mine are busier. Its not remote in any way!The delivery arrived not long after my last post - sadly, there were no nice big bottles of washing up liquid, but everything else was there. I need to learn how to make veggie crisps, I just bought a *lot* of sweet potato
I really like not having to go inside a shop ...
I didn't do too much today, but I did do a regular slot in the garden, and whats more I even put a top dressing of soil on, and then decent amounts of bark chippings (old stock). Really makes a difference - it's now very visible that there's a row of plants, within a foot or two of one another - salad burnet, wild garlic, lemon balm, sage, oregano, rosemary and rhubarb. Chuffed as anything about it - everything near the fence is a nightmare (because the fence is broken and can't currently be repaired) but the body of the garden is really starting to come together.2023: the year I get to buy a car4 -
Sounds like really great progress in the garden - kudos for getting out there today when the weather hasn’t been great! And you have wild garlic in your garden - wonderful!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Thanks madvix! It was lateish afternoon, about 4pm, which suits me, and the rain had gone, which suited me even more, so it worked well. There's been an absolute downpour this morning - currently looks okay. When I want to do something physical, I think I'll focus on finally clearing that bbq space and getting the planted containers arranged for maximum sun. One has a scabious in, so I could actually plant that, if I find an area thats both sunny and not too soggy - might go for the salad burnet end of that row of plants, it could do well there. And that puts it in view of the kitchen window. Win-win.Otherwise - its a "use flour" day. With red onions, if possible. Yorkshires with onion gravy? The gravy would be veggie crumbs from Sainsbo, but the Yorkshires would be mine

Oooh,Yorkshires with onion gravy. Sounds really yummy. Enjoy!
I love scabious flowers. We used to have a couple of plants but they seem to have disappeared, probably overwhelmed by more rampant plants and weeds. I'll have a root round in the area where I recall they were, maybe they can be salvaged. This is a massive garden, 'garden' making it sound more civilised than it is LOL, so it's easy to lose track of what's where. That's my excuse anyway.
Earlier this morning I was admiring the bluebells that are in full bloom now. There are various shades of blue and for the first year ever I see there are some pink ones. No idea where they came from, we certainly didn't plant them. Must do a quick Google to see if they ever change colour. Sounds silly really but I'm puzzled.
Have a good day however you spend it.5 -
