I rang my council recycling officer and he told me I could put jar and bottle lids in the recycling (with metal/plastic, mixed round here). Might be worth checking?I hope you have a productive day - and that that's an 'or' list not 'and'! No flying off into space! :P
but I'd much rather be flying off into space, thankyouverymuch

I've been doing very low level tidying, plus running the laptop to make the CDs. I can hand three of them over in person, so that will only be three more to post. And I certainly have the stamps :rotfl:
I'm also trying to cut down on books ... decision making time for my 4 remaining books on the real Stargate programme, which was a CIA project about ESP, partly based at Stanford, and got some very interesting results before they devolved into what even I would call weird and wacky  Only one book can stay!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
They charge you for garden waste here.
You can put food out for free but no flowers even in the bin or they wont take it.
All goes in the same bin & is picked up by the same truck.

I'm really surprised especially as Councils now pay so much for waste handling. You'd think they'd want to encourage as much recycling as possible. We have green waste collection every other week and food waste weekly.Choose kind0

Interesting how refuse and recycling schemes vary so much in different parts of the UK. If they could all get their act together and formulate a recycling system that's the same for all councils I'm sure they'd end up with more recyclable stuff. They make it unnecessarily complicated IMO.
We have a household refuse collection one week and the recycling one the next. They'll also take extra recyclable stuff like big broken down cardboard boxes if left at the side of the recycle bin but the household waste bin (which is smaller than the recycling one) is all the household rubbish they'll take, The lid has to close too. There's a fortnightly green waste collection from Spring through to Autumn but there's quite a hefty charge for it:(. I can't recall how much as needless to say we don't have it. We compost most garden waste or burn the rest. We have a mini city of compost 'daleks' at the bottom of the garden. The resultant compost is a godsend to improve our heavy clay soil:j. Occasionally OH takes a car bootfull of stuff to the tip if it's neither compostable or won't burn well. There are plenty of people locally with woodburners and they are grateful for anything that burns, such as tree branches and even twigs. We get rid of a lot that way although we could burn that on a bonfire ourselves. It's nice to think it's being useful to someone though. One man is happy to come and collect it whenever we give him a call.0 -
Another one who is charged for the green binOriginal MF Date = July 2034Current MF Date = July 2025

We're also charged (£44, I think - it's just gone up) for green bin - large wheelie collected fortnightly. It was free until approx. 4/5 years ago. We do compost, but some things are easier to get rid of in green bin.I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200

Thanks for the input on the green bins, folks - I really wish mine was free too
instead of which, I have three avenues of disposal:
- composting.
- bonfires in my little incinerator.
- sneaky disposal in my normal binForgive me! I don't have income, even though I have enough savings to go on holiday, I'm kind of paranoid about expenses.
My partner in Big Coastal City has printed and signed the ID document for me, should arrive today - he ran out of envelopes :rotfl: we all do so much online, I can understand that. I need to scan it and send it on, pronto.
I got a bit of basic deep cleaning done yesterday that hadn't been done for ages, made me feel a bit better about the place, and actually started looking at genealogy papers, since all the CDs are now made and waiting to be sent off. Might do a bit more of that today, plus a bit in the garden.
I'm going to have some time out in the open air today, playing :j2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
