It sounds like the 'getting there' can be a learning experience for the future independent travel
I know what you mean about the self-directed travel - I'm not sure cruises would be to my taste (but as DH gets seasick on a flat calm river, whilst steering, I doubt I need to worry about this).
International rail travel is just so expensive too - we'd love to go that way, but price-wise it just doesn't compare to flying
We had a thunderstorm here too last night - major rumbles!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

You're on the same page as me, madvix
Your poor OH getting seasick so badly! He can never go on the ferry across the Mersey
I've not done badly with my to-do list: SB, YouGov, bit of cleaning in the bathroom, a few organisational emails and phone calls for various events, photo scanning, gathering garden rubbish, most of the supermarket delivery is put away.
It's now glorious sunshine, and I think a nice evening walk might be called for :cool:2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Lucky you with sun.

Good financial update there KC, and you're making good progress on your lists too
You've reminded me we have blackberries down the bottom of our fields - I must go and check. We've lost all our gooseberries to the birds sadly - just a week after I noticed we had a bush :rotfl: Hope the blackberries don't go the same way (there are rather more of them so hopefully we'll get *some*)

It *is* sheer luck, beanie, though our averages are higher than yours, sorry! I really hope the very hot weather doesn't return, I was hiding for a lot of the time, I didn't do nearly as much as usual.
ETA - Hi Cheery! Thanks for that. And thats what I can do, I can go pick the blackberries2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
We are off on our self-directed hols from today but we have a neighbour's lovely daughter coming in to pick and water while we are away (DS is on house and cat-sitting but his watering is haphazard so at least there will still be raspberries and tomatoes when we get back). I completely agree about hermetically-sealed holiday experiences - we like being with the localsSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Have a wonderful time, SL! Good to know.
Anyway, my sister's coming over today to actually book the deal, so that's going to happen. I could rattle on for ages about it all, so I won't
I'm definitely meeting Great-Nephew Number 5 on Sunday, which is good. A more distant baby has also just been born (other side of London, near where I'm catsitting), and the poor parents have had so many visitors they've put a moratorium on visits. As family gets more distant, and friend groups get larger, I guess that becomes a thing?
Today: same as yesterday, bit of admin, bit of tidying, and as much gardening as my fingers can cope with. Must do a blog post, I didn't do one in July, grrr.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Just watching a 30 minute tv programme about the heatwave, it was on itv last night - it made lots of comparisons with 1976. Hmmm. I think resiliency to heat definitely goes down with age
I remember being hot, but I don't remember struggling, or changing my actions. Mind you, I graduated that year, and I was working at a local factory on a 7 hour shift, and in the evening I cycled to a local bingo hall 3 nights, where I worked as a barmaid
. None of this hiding from the sun for 21 year old me
