Sorry I've been AWOL for ages:o but have just found the time in a temporarily (I hope) manic life to zoom round my favourite diaries and catch up on all your news:j.
Lots of happy events on here since my last visit, whether new baby, fun outings or new dishwaher related:dance:_party_. Sending congratulations to all whatever you've been enjoying lately:beer:
I enjoyed all the dishwasher chat. Sadly, the only working dishwasher in this house is me and despite there only being the 2 of us I seem to have mountains of washing up to do. I should be more like my mother who washed up even one cup as soon as it had been used. My usual sluttish manner is to let it pile up until it's worth using hot water and washing up liquid:o.
I know there's often been mention of Prolific and YouGov surveys on here and I was surprised today to receive an email from YouGov saying that they have been having issues with PlusNet customers not receiving survey emails. I receive invites so seldom I feel very unloved, especially as I'm within touching distance of a £50 payout after what seems like years.:(. YouGov are working to rectify the problem so I hope they do it quickly. I mention all this in case anyone else on here feels ignored by YouGov. If you're a PlusNet customer that's the reason.
Prolific on the other hand has been incredibly lucrative and well, prolific, this past week. 5 studies yesterday and 4 the day before netting about £16:j. And there was me thinking researchers had all finished for the summer. Lots of them were from foreign universities though so I imagine their academic years are different.
I hope you're all coping with the heat. I'm finding it a struggle at the moment. Seems strange to be praying for rain and a return to the normal British summer weather:rotfl:0 -
Thanks both! And for a mum in her late 30s, a first-baby weight of 7lbs 11oz is really goodcarbootcrazy wrote: »Sorry I've been AWOL for ages:o but have just found the time in a temporarily (I hope) manic life to zoom round my favourite diaries and catch up on all your news:j.

Congratulations Great Auntie Karmacat! :j :j :j Wonderful news :j :j
I'm meant to be doing something else right now but just wanted to stick my oar inFirst of all welcome back to carbootcrazy, hope life gets more manageable soon...
You mentioned researchers finishing for the summer....carbootcrazy wrote: »Prolific on the other hand has been incredibly lucrative and well, prolific, this past week. 5 studies yesterday and 4 the day before netting about £16:j. It might be that Prolific gets *more* busy over the summer - university staff don't get the same holidays as students. Those who work as full time researchers just have annual leave to take whenever they can throughout the year like anyone else. Those of us in teaching and research posts can't take holidays while we're teaching (of course), so we end up taking some of our holidays in a bunch while the students aren't here - but the rest of the time, the summer is actually the main time we get to do some actual *research* while there is no teaching going on.
For example I took some time off over Christmas, some at Easter, and I'll have a couple of weeks in August (and the odd day here there too), but most of my summer is being spent working on several different research projects and writing up several that have finished :j (and preparing next year's teaching of course)
Sorry for butting inI just get a lot of people assuming I'll have the entire summer off because the students have gone home when actually I don't :rotfl: (It is a lot calmer though
)

Cheery, thanks very much for that, thats really useful knowledge to have - someone like me could well not bother joining right now, exactly because of what CBC said - I shall definitely go for it this afto
Yesterday and today have been full of probate work, unfortunately, my eyes are going cross-eyed at the computer - all about this ground rent thing, and making sure that the three of us can sign one form - thats all it is, as well as documentation dating back to 2006. A clean copy, one that doesn't have my mum's gossip all over it :rotfl:2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Thanks very much for the useful information, Cheery:beer:
One of my closest friends (from our joint undergrad days decades ago) was a university lecturer until her retirement. I know her leave patterns sometimes meant problems for her when synchronising holiday arrangements with her children although she usually managed to take time off to coincide with their school breaks. She enjoyed the long summer vac though as without the students cluttering up the place she could crack on with her own research in peace;)
I was assuming that the researchers who submit studies on PA are students and as such work to regular academic dates. Having said that though most studies show the name of their 'supervisor' who is obviously much more senior and a member of the university staff.
I had the impression that the country grinds to a halt during high summer or at least slows right down. Even Parliament goes into recess next week:rotfl:0 -
Morning all
I'm feeling quite grumpy today but the only thing thats positive for me to do is to re-focus on looking after myself.
So today is an admin day for me alone, I'm not going anywhere on the first Saturday of the summer holidays :
- SB
- scanning photos, want to get as much done as I can.
- when I get fed up of that, weeding, or
- cleaning a few bits of wall where I've let it get a bit dirty (insects!).2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Doing little bits of admin while I'm scanning ... putting together the refunds for the cancelled shore trips during the cruise with the paperwork so I can share the dosh appropriately with my sister. This is important2023: the year I get to buy a car0
