Thanks Mister G and giraffe69. Off to have a look at Powerline plugs.

Powerline adapter didnt work for me and that was just going from one room to the next. In fact the plug sockets used were back to back on the same wall (so probably same cable). Wi-fi dongle likely to be more reliable.

I have a Netgear 85mbps Wall Plugged Ethernet Switch XE104, which belonged to my son before he moved out. I have plugged one end into an Ethernet connection on the new BT Smart Hub and the other end into an Netgear Ethernet plug and plugged into wall socket. Is this similar to a Powerline Adapter. ?

Yes. It's only 85Mb but may be sufficient. I assume that you have a pair of these?

    Here's the manual

    Does it work?

Thanks Mister G. No only one. I don't think it can be working. I've looked at a BT11ac Dual Band wifi dongle 610 but I'm not sure if this is ok. I don't want to buy this and then have to return it. I only have WAN Miniport (PPPoE) as my connection. Am I better buying a long Ethernet cable for the time being.?

    Quick answer - YES.

I'm not familiar with WAN miniports - perhaps someone else who lurks around these forums is?

The powerline adaptors I mentioned earlier will certainly solve your problem. The BT dongle should as well, providing your wifi signal is strong enough where your PC is located.
