New Broadband.

Have new broadband on another phone line. All devices connected except my desktop PC (had for 2.5 years). Hub is too far away to use Ethernet cable. HP say there is no wireless connectivity on this PC. BT have suggested buying Dual WiFi adapter. HP say I need to buy long Ethernet cable (need about 28ft). I have Windows 7 professional and Error 651 message.

Are HP correct?0

I think they must be Quentin as BT said I would need to buy a Dual WiFi adapter. I just find it hard to believe that a reasonably new desktop PC doesn't have wireless connectivity.0

Thanks Mister G. I'll take a look. I need to get it sorted as we are paying for 2 telephone lines and 2 broadband connections when we only need one.0

Did the PC work via wifi with the original BB?0

Hello Quentin, my PC ( and previous PC) PC has always been connected using an Ethernet cable. This is what I am connected to now. As soon as I disconnect this broadband and try to connect to BT smarthub it says I need a cable. I am not aware of ever seeing a wireless connection on the network connections page.0

OK.
You can get a USB wifi dongle that you plug in permanently to your PC
(Not expensive - start around £7 on amazon)0 -
Thanks for this Quentin. I'll have a look.0

Indeed, a USB dongle could be the cheapest way to go, providing you have sufficient wifi signal from your router in the area where your PC is.
If not, then you may find the Powerline solution more reliable. It also distributes your internet connection around the house, which means that you can hard wire other devices (TV, PVR etc) into it by just adding further adaptors. You can also add wireless adaptors to extend your wifi.0 -
Powerline plugs have always worked for me (and worked well).
Quite a few desktops do not have a wifi card.0
