    Morning all,

I’d like to join you this year, if I may?

This year I need to get a lot more organised, one of the reasons being that there will be a salary drop in February. Also, I just have a gnawing away at me inside that I wish to go back to living the way I was brought up, less reliance on expensive convenience living, and back to mending, making do with what you have etc.

The last month I have spent far too much on A*on and E*ay, ugh.

Anyway, being positive: today I have minimised catalogues etc into the recycling, make do is using a tea towel instead of buying an oven glove (old one disappeared over Christmas), and mend is?

Hi everyone, joining in with you all this year if I may. I'm fairly make do and mend anyway but I certainly need reminding about this every so often.
Make do: Had another portion of soup that I made yesterday and for dinner I will be having some more bean stew I also made yesterday.
Mend: I haven't any mending at the moment, but I do have lots of crafting supplies and DGC's wanting dolls clothes etc made.
Minimise: I did quite a bit before Xmas so I haven't much left, but I will start a bag off in the spare room and add to it as I find anything, as there's always something lurking somewhere!!
I love reading this thread as I think it is most akin to me.#

Finished off one of my charity blankets last night I dug out lots of squares that I have been given to sew together for the Making Miracles baby charity this morning, Because different ladies knit at different tensions some are smaller than others and not all pinks are the same colour :) so I will have to sort them out and see if I can make them into at least some semblance or order/pattern They are sold to raise funds so they have got to look reasonably neat and tidy :) The last 12 I sewed together and knitted a border for sold and raised £120 for the charity

Making do with freezer fodder this month I did a shop this morning for fresh fruit and veg and bits I had run out of and kept the cost quite low :) so minimised my spending for the food budget so far to £18.90 for this month and we are almost half way through it :)

    Onwards and upwards chums

I made a bendy veg soup last week, ate one portion and froze the other three portions. It wasn’t very nice, and for the second bowl I added some salt and pepper. It tasted better, but still not nice. For the third bowl I added salt, pepper, and some butter. That really improved the taste! I will do the same for the last bowl, which I’ll eat at work tomorrow.

  • Hello, new to the but have been minimising for 18 months or so. I’m keen on minimalism, mending, making do and mindfulness. Although I’ve been physically disabled from birth I was diagnosed with the first of three degenerative eye conditions six years ago. If you’re wondering how rare this trivector of eye conditions is I’m told by specialists there’s only one other medically reported case in the world. So minimising for me is, if not a necessity, prudent. Making do and mending are important as we waste so much. Mindfulness helps deal with the rest.

Quick review of 2017 the book collection is down to what I consider to be the basics, I’m not getting rid of the Pratchett’s or the Hitchhikers but the rest may yet go. Books were donated to CS or given to friends although I asked for a voluntary donation to a charity I’m involved in. Declined any birthday presents [asked for donations in lieu] raised around £500 all told.

Mended and upgraded a PC just to prove I could. It was on its way to a skip from my place of work.

Enjoyed cooking and experimenting, mostly successful.

    Discover stoicism.

The minimising continues, today I have got rid of 2 waste bins full of rubbish from DD's room, we have done this so many times in the past and I'm not sure where it all comes from. On top of that there was a large bag to donate that came out of there too. We recycled everything we could and one thing is to go on ebay to raise some money for her. Not that she needs any money as I have put her on a complete spending ban due to the amount of stuff she has.

I also got rid of several fabric remnants that I have kept in case I feel like making something with them but I've had them long enough now plus my sewing machine is out of action and needs repairing. Also old expired medication and health care items have left the building too.

I thought nobody else was minimising either since new year. Then I found you've started a new thread! I've a helluva lot of catching up to do!!!

I minimised a carrier bag full of empty ink cartridges to our local recycling centre yesterday. I've been 'meaning to' for about a year. I've no excuse really it's only half a mile away, but I put it in the car and called in on my way back from the gym. I've several things in the garage to take so I'm going to try and make 'calling on the way back from the gym' a habit to get rid of stuff.
On the making do front, today I used up a rather sad looking apple and grated that into the breakfast porridge. Yesterday, I was rifling through my pantry cupboard and found some prunes, so that's something else I can use in the porridge, once I've used all the apples up.
Mending: I've a button to sew back on my winter coat, which I will do tonight in front of the telly.

Ive skimmed back through this years posts - my you are all fired up again this year and welcome to the newbies!
So what have I done so far - lots of mending as I brought my sewing machine down and there's been DH's overalls,DGD's jeans & trousers, my tops, some knickers that I'd put my thumb through the lace on the hip (they don't make them like they used to lol) 4 pillow protectors made from an old mattress cover. I've still got a small curtain to make for DS1 to hide the pipework under the sink in his utility room - I persuaded him to have a flat curtain as a gathered one would look 'grannyish'
I've minimised quite a bit of paperwork by filing it or shredding it,found a recycling bag for my printer cartridges and sent those off, sorted some odds & sods for DS1, still minimising my freezers by making do (see what I did there :))
So - onward and upward chums!
