Well done house elf :T I never quite acquired the sewing skills necessary to alter clothing
plus I gifted my rather complicated sewing machine to my niece-in-law :rotfl:
Make Do: Food from the freezer
Mend: found the correct sized bulb for a new to me lamp
Minimise: garden pots & seed trays being donated to CS & old broken lamp to Tip

Mend: I need to sew up my plastic reusabe shopping bag which looks like a banana - I've had it for years and washed it a few times, and it's ripped along the seam, but I'm not giving up on it yet, I like the way it folds away into a neat little banana
Make do: I'm still working my way through the assortment of rolls and wraps etc which I've accumulated in the freezer - looking forward to getting back to a toasted pitta with my salad, but they must go!
Minimise: I'm having another look through everything for things to sell/donate0 -
Good morning!
I am looking for some guidance please...I am currently losing weight quite rapidly and because I am paying off debt I don't want to be buying a new wardrobe. I've got a lot of tops that will do me for at least another 3 or 4 stone because I've lost weight around my bust but my stomach is catching up which means that they look baggy but they will do for the moment.
However....when it gets to the point that they're slipping off my shoulders is there anything I can do to keep them in place? I no longer have a sewing machine so it would need to be a hand sewing job - however I've never hand sewn in my life! The same goes for leggings, they're getting baggy around my legs but I can't see the point in throwing them away, I'd rather make them tighter around my waist and continue wearing them to potter around the house and when we go on walks.
Is there a quick and easy way to make clothes just a tiny bit tighter without doing loads of work?£5000 left to pay on credit cards, down from 40k!!0 -
I had this issue with a pair of old PJ's which i loved - I simply sewed in some medium size elastic onto the inside of the waistband and that helped keep them up.
As far as the leggings go I seem to recall I used to sew the inside leg seam of my jeans when i wanted to tighten them up (years before we had jeans in every shape and size!!). Maybe on the tops you can tack in a little elasticated bridge between your two shoulders so that it holds the sleeves up on your shoulders rather than bagging??
Well done on the weight loss - that's a great result. Have you considered asking Freecycle for clothes in your new sizes?? There may be someone out there who has a wardrobe which you could make use of? It's free and people are very kind and generous I find.
Good luck, keep up the good work!!0 -
Good Morning,
Make do: Moving bricks dug up from the footings of the extension to the bottom of the garden. I have plans for them to be a path in between raised veg beds. :rotfl:One day.......
Mend: Reunited a yard brush and a spare handle, so do not need to buy a new brush just yet.
Minimise: Emptied out the 'Drawers' draw.

Is this an example of what's known as the 'Trigger's Broom Paradox'?

Bought a pair of soft fabric jeans in the CS for £2 to cut them off so does that count as make do, mend and minimise all in one?Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

Make do: I have a much loved pair of linen trousers with an elasticated waist, which are great for gardening. They have worn through, so I bought a pair in the sale at Asda. New ones too big, so I have taken them in at the side seam, and repaired the old trousers at the same time.
Mend: Cleaned out the hen pen, and gave them a new flooring. (Hopefully, it will be r-a-t proof ). Hens are very suspicious of the new landscaping.
Minimise: Spent the afternoon with my best toy......Cutting up wood for the woodburner with the electric chainsaw. So much funThe big bits of wood are now cleared, and we just need to get rid of foliage. (Can't have a bonfire, cos the neighbour complained). We have enough wood for a couple of years :j
The trousers split again, so will have to wear them over leggings
