My husband is the opposite, he would have summer weather and light nights all year round if he could.
I've had a busy morning, fed DH and GC, been shopping, cooked some meals to freeze for over Christmas, vacuumed the house and done a wash. Just having a break before doing lunch.
Gawd I'm tired just reading it......:rotfl: well done you.
Yes I don't mind the dark nights, it's the dark days I hate so much. Give my -5 but with blue skies and sunshine. I'm fine with that. It's the dismal, dank, "dreich" days that get into my bones.
Anyway, I've had brunch, time for coffee and then dress that tree. I have tried the lights and we're good to go.
Maybe I'll dig out some CDs with jaunty music and try to give myself an energy boost.0 -
Money - sometimes I've come across people who are dyslexic. Their spelling can be atrocious but that certainly doesn't mean they are unintelligent - in fact quite the opposite. I've worked in organisations where the written word has been of paramount importance ( legal & pharmaceutical) and some of the most brilliant brains can't always spell. Their talents lie in other directions.
Just spotted this.....my youngest is dyslexic (and dispraxic). Bless his cotton socks. Brilliant brain though. The dyslexia institute gave him an IQ test. They said it was off the charts. The reason that his teachers hadn't picked up on his dyslexia and just assumed he was lazy and obnoxious is that he had found ways of working round the issues. He has a near photographic memory for a start. So he came over as being bone idle and disinterested because he was bored and frustrated. Once we found out the problem and knew how to manage him he forged ahead. Oddly enough music lessons really seemed to help.
Having worked in construction I met a large proportion of dyslexics. I think school career advice used to steer them towards the trades. Many of them were extremely bright, well read and articulate and of course you need to have really strong maths and science skills to be a decent heating engineer or master builder.
My plumber/heating engineer is profoundly dyslexic but he's a maths genius and a very well read and intelligent man.
I actually suffer from discalculia. The numbers just won't stay in their proper columns, the little blighters dance all over the page. :rotfl:0 -
Good morning lovely ladies
Well thankfully much warmer today. We even had some blue skies earlier but clouding over now. I was up with the larks and have been to ASDA. Couldnt get half of what I wanted......:rotfl: will have to try somewhere else tomorrow. But for now I am going to get on with some house fabbing, the rest of the decorations, write the last of Christmas cards and so on.
Busy, busy, busy.
Not feeling a hundred percent at the moment but with a bit of luck I can get it over and done with and then feel better at Christmas.
Got several outings booked for next week so I had better pick up soon.....:rotfl:0 -

I've been gradually buying in bits over the past few weeks while some people were swanning around Europe!:rotfl:I try to get to Christmas week only needing fresh veg. This week I bought a selection of cheeses. It's hard to track down some of our favourites as many places seem to have limited the range in favour of slices.lessonlearned wrote: »But for now I am going to get on with some house fabbing, the rest of the decorations, write the last of Christmas cards and so on.

I worked really hard yesterday although I had to push myself. I finished the cards and did the decorations. The tree is up but not decorated yet. I'll maybe make a start on that today (out at football this afternoon) and finish it tomorrow.
As I didn't go out yesterday (weather was revolting so didn't miss anything:D) I took advantage to do extra slathering starting with the flaxseed oil rather than my usual (expensive) serum. I think I'll make a point of doing that when I can.
I have to say our house is really warm considering we have single glazed windows. We had cavity wall insulation done a couple of years ago and that seems to have helped the house retain heat. As we're in a conservation area we can't change the windows unless we go for (expensive) wooden copies or secondary glazing. I might consider bespoke double glazed units for the dining room bay and possibly the front window in the sitting room (north facing) if they needed replacing but all the other rooms are fine as is upstairs.
Podiatry appointment booked for tomorrow so that's my next bit of planned fabbing. It's dry and reasonably bright here although rain is threatened for later.0 -
I forgot I bought a "slouchy" top from Primark from the charity shop that I was going to wear as nightwear so I collected up a few more things to dye. I'm doing tulip red today. I put a beige cardigan in that I was going to donate but thought I would just see what it looked like red.:)
I'm probably going over the top with the colours thing as I told the person I was with on Friday that the violet shirt he was wearing was the wrong colour for his skin and hair.:rotfl:
Very lazy day again. I have a hair treatment on my hair and I'm going to have a shower in a minute. My husband is going to see one of those superhero films with his brother today. At least it isn't as cold today.0 -
I am loving the sound of the tulip red.....I will be interested to see how well beige comes out.
My son has a sofa and chair in beige micro pore fabric. He doesn't want them, they currently reside in his conservatory hidden under piles of junk. They would fit very well in my lounge but I don't like the colour and tbh they do look a bit tired.
I was thinking of dyeing them. Not quite sure what colour yet but I do like the new "jewel" colours that are becoming fashionable in Home furnishings. I love some of the peacock greeny blues and that dark cobalt blue. I want to try and incorporate those kind of colours when I decorate.
I did wonder IF a beige starting point would give a "brownish" tinge to the dye. I will be interested to hear how the cardigan turns out.
I have got a podiatry appt for next Thursday. Then I can paint my toe nails for Christmas......Chinese Red. :rotfl:0 -

A great plumber, electrician or builder can have such a wealth of opportunities and variety. People are suckered into a nice title as young adults, but a great trade will always stand to you. Being able to work for themselves gives more freedom and independence.
I know that i tend to make a few grammatical errors from time to time but I am good with maths. We all have different talents and skill sets.
I have been avoiding doing the ironing and it looks like a day to catch up on it.0 -
I'm another member of the anti beige brigade. It's a colour that makes me feel weary, even if it's on another person :rotfl: Mum's 74, n wears vibrant colours with black trousers, n looks at least 10 years younger than her beige wearing friends
Am still having family probs, which are really affecting my health n anxiety levels. Some massive changes will have to be made in the New Year! I just Can't carry on like this any more
Me n Mum are off to the church Carol service tonight , which should be fun .More like a rock concert with carols :rotfl:
Hope you feel better soon 'LL xx:A"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

I tried my hand at dying stuff before and generally polyester or man made fabrics go 1/2 to 1/3 of the strength of the desired colour. white became sky blue with a navy dye. Some fabrics repeal the dye totally .
Beige if more creamy toned will take a dark colour but it may be a shade or two lighter than intended. If you could cut a small section out from a cushion it will tell you. Sometimes there are large seams and loose fabric inside the cushion.0 -

I just checked after the first wash and everything has gone red apart from my grey pajamas, that I put in accidentally!:p
I think the new fabric dye pods are a lot better, when I did this a few years ago I had to buy salt to put in the machine too. Now it's all in one pod and you just have to do two washes on 40 degrees, the second one with detergent.savingfortomorrow wrote: »A great plumber, electrician or builder can have such a wealth of opportunities and variety. Yes, that is very true, especially as you say they work for themselves.:)
My husband did an apprenticeship after leaving school at 16 (he works for London underground) and he gets paid a lot more than some other younger men I know who are highly educated.2025 GOALS
