Finished Amanda Stevens The Sinner the penultimate, and probably the most creepy and scary in the Graveyard Queen series, where even our intrepid and steady protagonist,Amelia Gray, has a terrifying time after she finds a ring of ancient graves around one containing a headless corpse, the leader of long ago satanists. Strangely all the graves have rare mortsafes welded on the graves, metal bars that were intended to prevent grave-robbers from stealing the bodies , long ago in Europe. But why on earth are they here in a wild little wood adjoining an abandoned graveyard?. It would normally be just an interesting conundrum for Amelia, until she sees hands of a recently dead person reaching up and clasping the bars of a mortsafe. She had failed to escape being buried alive. Things go rapidly downhill from there. I love the spooky atmosphere and nailbiting tension Amanda Stevens brings to this series. I'm a bit sad that there is only one more book to go,book 6,The Awakening.
Only 2 books in progress to be completed to FINALLY complete all this year's challenges.0 -

Book 64:
7/10. Another book that I thought would be a quick read, but wasn't. I found that I had to read each line several times to try to work out what it was saying to me - even then I'm not convinced I succeeded! Back to the drawing board for me, I thinkValue-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I read Reveal by Robbie Williams and Chris Heath and I absolutely loved this well written no holds barred 2nd Autobiography of Robbie Williams. I got a real insight into how Robbie was more fulfilled in his life since marrying Ayda and becoming a father. It also documents Robbie's journey with his addictions and mental health issues with sensitivity. I would give this book 9.5/100

Hi all, a wee update on my "Christmas" reading choices.
Finished "Christmas at Little Beach Street Bakery" by Jenny Colgan. An easy read, part of a series that I jumped into with this book. If I can fit another into whatever challenge I set myself, I'd be happy to read it.
Finished "The Season for Slaying", a short story by Hillary Avis, a murder mystery, obviously. I quite liked it - and felt a bit sorry for the villain.X2 by Bobbie Doctor, on Flickr
Finished David Baldacci's "The Christmas Train", which I enjoyed. I also watched the film and didn't get too annoyed by the adaptation. Thanks for the recommendation.X3 by Bobbie Doctor, on Flickr
Now I'm reading "Pilfered Promises" by M. Louisa Locke. It's the second in a series of mysteries set in San Francisco in 1880. (Of course I haven't read the first! It was free on Amazon.) Anne Dawson is called in to help solve a shoplifting problem at a major department store. Then MME Fournier is found dead at the foot of a flight of stairs.... I think I am going to enjoy this one.X4 by Bobbie Doctor, on Flickr

Book 65:
8/10. A short but great read that rooted out some of the most absurd yet deep-seated prejudices against 50% of the world's population. It also cross-referenced some of the books I've read / remain on my wishlist. I really enjoyed this. Lecture (and earlier) version below if anyone is interested:

After the mental wrestling of Book 64, I decided to go back to basics with Book 66:
6.5/10. This was fine, until the story left the point I was already familiar with. What happened after The Buddha died was centuries of mentally abstract obfuscation, which I don't particularly agree with. I thought reading this book might help in my ongoing quest for The Truth, but I was wrong! It did however show Buddhism to be flexible to circumstances, and charted its spread across the world.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Just finished C.J. Sansom's latest book "Tombland". At 800+ pages it makes for a satisfying read but also makes your arms ache!
Loved loved loved it.....Set in the 16th century, Matthew Shardlake, the crook-back lawyer (as they say) is in Norwich investigating a murder and gets caught up in the peasants revolt. Meticulously researched and wonderfully written.
All C J Sansom's books feature Matthew Shardlake but all can be read as stand alone booksNormal people worry me.0 -
I've just finished my first Edna O'Brien book - The Little Red Chairs
It made me very uncomfortable, as it focused very strongly on the Bosnian War. However, Karadizh was made into an attractive character and the main character had an affair with him.
