Had two large bags of books given to me and found a nice one which I have started to read called The Snow Rose by Lulu Taylor ,bit of a slow start but hopefully it will get better. A real treasure trove of books though and found a pile that my DGS Ben snaffled which he liked the look of ,a philosophy one for DGS Jack who will get it when he comes home from Uni for the weekend in a couple of weeks time .A business studies book for DGS Henry who id doing it in his second year of A levels and a very large Guiness Book of the 20th Century which DGS Mikey will enjoy The lady who gave them to me said could I take them to the tip if I didn't want any of them !!!! I don't tip books to landfill especially as they were in really good condition.I have found a home for all of them and once read will be passed on to other readers who I know .

I have just finished reading Fury by Elizabeth Miles. It seemed to be have been written for the young adult market, but it was well written with very believable characters. It is a book about supernatural revenge which really captured my imagination and left me very curious about the end. It turns out this book is the 1st book in a trilogy so now I have to try and get myself the next 2 books to find out what happened. I would give this book 9/100

I just finished reading Two's Company by Jill Mansell which was a very easy read. It deals with the themes of Love, friendship, fidelity, family and betrayal. I would give this book 9/100

Book 59:
7/10. This is one of those books that waxes and wanes in terms of interest, although the ingenuity is undeniable. I'm happy to accept that its one of the more authentic versions of the story, but there was a lot of repetition, to-ing and fro-ing along the timeline and conjecture. There was a lot of sympathy and admiration for the gang which I can understand to a degree - but it was far from victimless as those who lost items didn't think insurance would offer protection in comparison to the vault. So a cautionary tale if nothing else.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

It’s 1944 and sixteen-year-old ballerina and gymnast Edith Eger is sent to Auschwitz. Separated from her parents on arrival, she endures unimaginable experiences, including being made to dance for the infamous Josef Mengele. When the camp is finally liberated, she is pulled from a pile of bodies, barely alive.
The horrors of the Holocaust didn’t break Edith. In fact, they helped her learn to live again with a life-affirming strength and a truly remarkable resilience. The Choice is her unforgettable story. (from the blurb)
A very interesting read. not as much about the holocaust, but how Edith faced her own demons and how her experiences helped her to help many others is inspiring.Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow..

Book 60:
8/10. This was a lovely read, had me smiling almost all the way through it - anecdotes interspersed with truth. If you're a JV fan like myself, you'll love it!Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Simon R Green's Hell to Pay and Kim Harrison's Ever After were two fun UF light reads,a nice respite from the 800 page long Hugo winning A Deepness in the Sky.I had really enjoyed Vernor Vinge's previous winner,A Fire Upon the Deep, and eagerly looked forward to this one but found it dark slow paced, full of future AI and tech, with unlikable characters. Clunky style too.It was one of those books that you read for what seems like a long time, and are then disappointed to find you've only read a dozen pages:(. So it took weeks. Never mind, that makes 61/67of the Hugos read. I'm getting there!:)0

Quintin Jardine's A Brush with Death,#29 in the Bob Skinner series was another very enjoyable entry in the series.I always like meeting up with Skinner's old police friends whom he handpicked and trained over the years.and are now senior officers, including chief constables, themselves. The death of an ex-boxer draws in Skinner, and I found the dead man a very interesting character.
An excellent outing for Skinner.Jardine continues to ring the changes of the settings and characters to keep this series fresh.Long may he do so!I much prefer this series to Rankin's Rebus books.0 -
