    Book 61:

    helgas_diary_1491720021_83b5325e.jpg

8.5/10. This has been on my shelf for a few months now, but I only picked up this afternoon - and then couldn't put it down. I like the fact that it is easy to read (language rather than content) and made me think, and I actually preferred it to The Diary of Anne Frank. Reading this personal experience of how Czech Jews were treated showed the systematically planned way in which the Nazis tortured through physical and mental cruelty prior to murder. I can't help but think about this book in modern terms: I'm 45 and it feels unreal that such inhumanity was permitted on a grand scale so recently. Indirectly, this diary brought into sharp focus for me the Jewish community has seen mission creep before with disastrous results, how can they tolerate it again? This may explain why Israel's proactivism? It also served to remind me that incredibly, religious persecution against Jews and Catholics continued after WWII! Nothing changes, seemingly - and it is worrying that we are seeing the same social behaviours are developing.

Now for something far more pleasant: a clip to delight those of us that like print:

  • I have finished reading An Uncomplicated Life by Paul Daugherty

I really enjoyed this memoir of life with his Down Syndrome daughter Jillian from the moment of her birth to her adult life and independence from her parents. It was a completely captivating read for me as Paul Daugherty descriptive writing is very eloquent and paints a real picture of the reality of life with his daughter Jillian and the challenges and the blessings of life with Jillian. His raw honesty is so refreshing from his own point of view and the point of view of his wife and his son as they all adapt to life with Jillian. I would give this book 10/10 :D

8.5/10. I loved this book, so many insights and micro-lessons as to how illness can manifest physically and behaviourally in one place. Offers assurance that listening to your own instincts is the right think to do, even if you can't explain why; the advice within will make me a better with patients, for sure.

Not been around because of my laptop charger being broken,so couldnt get online.Silver lining I finished 4 books this week!:T Already completed my December Alphabet challenge:)

Monthly Alphabet Challenge for December – The Glittering, Grand and Glorious Letter G!

    1528612739.svg

G is the seventh letter of the modern English and basic Latin alphabets. The letter 'G' was introduced in the Old Latin period as a variant of 'C'. The recorded originator of 'G' is freedman Spurius Carvilius Ruga, the first Roman to open a fee-paying school, who taught around 230 BCE.

G can be pronounced “hard” as in goose or gargoyle, or “soft” as in giant or ginger. G is represented in the phonetic alphabet by “golf”.

G can stand for gangster/gangsta in hip-hop, for Grafenberg in “G-spot”, a film acceptable for general audiences, the prefix “giga-“ for a billion, or the generation of your cellular phone network.

    For December:

1.Read a book where a word in the title starts with the letter “G”.Patricia Wentworth - The Grey Mask

2.Read a book where the author’s initials is “G”. Laura Anne Gilman - Pack of Lies

3.Read a book with something starting with the letter “G” shown on the cover : a graveyard.
    Amanda Stevens - The Sinner

Cant be fussed even trying to adjust it,so take it or leave it.:D
I have only one more book to complete my challenge over on the SF site Worlds Without End,Becky Chambers - A Closed and Common Orbit, and 3 more to finish my 12x12 challenge on LibraryThing,so I should complete all my challenges for the year.I was getting a bit anxious if I would manage it.
Finally making a start on Xmas preparations.Yesterday I wrote out all my cards, and washed all the paintwork and cleaned the 3 piece suite in the sitting room.Today its the fireplace to clean, mirrors, chandelier crystal drops etc to clean, tables to polish. Then tomorrow I shampoo the carpet, and I am ready to put up the tree and decorate on Thursday. Then I will finally feel Xmas is coming!:D

finally finished "84 Charing Cross Road" - life got in the way, plus it's not a 'can't put it down' sort of book. I enjoyed it but didn't love it; a nice, gentle read.

Now it's Christmas and I am starting with

Once again I've fallen behind in my posting...!

    Book 63:

7/10. I bought this thinking it might incentivise me to start running (unlike "Run Fat B!tch, Run") but I was wrong. Whilst impressed with his sheer tenacity, I couldn't help but think how obsessive you have to be to do this and also the wear and tear on your joints. His narratives of his ultra-marathon and Athens - Marathon run in extreme heat were almost painful to read. So whilst running is not for me (a long brisk walk is perfectly acceptable!) I found his description of his own introversion to be compelling. I'm also encouraged to start reading his novels, which I've been collecting on recommendation for some time but have yet to actually open.
