basic mobile
My husband has an ancient Motorola 520 mobile.
It is at least 5yrs old and reaching the end of its days.
I have been able to get replacement batteries in the past from local market stalls, but now it is simply wearing out.
He only makes calls; and then only infrequently!
He finds ALL of the phones around unsuitable.
He doesn't even know how to text, (and certainly doesn't want lo learn).
I heard, either on the ''Today'' programme OR it might have been ''You and Yours'',(Radio 4) of a basic phone which just made and received calls.
I THINK the chap being interviewed came from Vodafone.
I think this was intended for the elderly or those who like to keep it simple.
I have checked everywhere and no-one including the bright young things in the phone shops seem to know about it.
I also remember an article in the ''Daily Mail'' some months ago suggeting the same idea.
It seems that the Japanese already use them widely.
Can anyone help??

My partner works for Vodafone and (after some freebies i got last night), she reccommends the Silver one.
They are very basic, and premanently on the standby screen shows the time, profile which is on (eg normal/silent/vibrate), Battery full or empty warning, signal strength and best of all for those forgetfull people, your mobile number.
Hope this helps
good luck

I don't know about the Vodaphone phone, but simplicity was my husband's brief for a new phone too - he was very 'anti' getting one at all - it being his first, so I got him a Nokia 1100 which was designed to be an easy to use, low budget phone and he has taken to it like a duck to water!
I have a thread running on this forum which might help you if you like this phone:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=53624 - but other models are available at different prices through this offer.
Hope this helps:EasterBun

Have a read of Martin's thread about Granny in the Glovebox here. Not about putting a granny in the glove box but about having a basic phone for emergencies

A pre-paid handset will cost £80 while people opting for a monthly price plan will get the handset free.

That is a little expensive for the amount of calls he would make.
Hopefully when his present''brick'' finally dies the price will have come down as do the prices of all mobiles in the end!
Thanks to all who made suggestions.0 -

I have checked with vodafone.
Went into town this afternoon.
their''simple'' phone is £80.
A lot for a very light user.
Later went to some stalls on the market and have found NOT ONE BUT TWO USED BUT VERY GOOD SUITABLE OLD MOTOROLAS - That was lucky.
I got both for £15 and that includes two brand new batteries,(not motorola brand but ok).
Thanks to all for help and suggestions. Cheers0
