The problem is we are in a race to the bottom with the charity industry because theres a finite amount of money that the public can be squeezed for but the associated costs of actually getting that money out of people will continue to rise.
Charities such as the one I mentioned should be forced to be honest with the public and say "For each one of you we sign up to direct debit donations ,we will pay the fundraising company up to £180-00" and that way the public get to decide whether or not to donate. Its certainly nto value for money unless people donate for 10yrs ....... That would be honest but they don't do honesty.
I'm not sure a voluntary workforce would give the same continuation though - very easy if you're not employed per se to say something has come up and I need a few months off. You may end up running into all sorts of issues with things just falling apart due to people not being financially invested in outcomes. My swimming club is a bit of an example - run entirely by volunteers, and quite often things take months to sort out as people are obviously going to prioritise their life problems over that of the club.
I think the only way to run large scale charity operations is with a paid staff, and it is natural for that paid staff to want to better their lot in life by earning as much as they can from their time. Would putting a cap on fat cat pay make that much of a difference? How many people in a charity are earning more than 100k?0 -

If you ask people what Shelter does, a lot of mugs would imagine it houses people. It does not. It contributes nothing. It's just a political front lobbying for more tax on other people, its salary bill funded by donors who by and large do not realise this.
This is broadly true of all grievance charidees - Rowntree etc. Very few people would recognise that as a legitimate charitable purpose of public benefit.
Such frauds are a disgrace and an affront.
I used to donate to shelter for years.
I stopped when I realised they were putting out fake propaganda
Especially the idea of hundreds of thousands of empty homes.
You are right its just a political front making !!!! up to justify their worldviews0 -
If anyone can post a link of a charity ad stating clearly on the ad how much actually goes directly to help people/animals, i will personally donate £1,000 right away. If more then 1 ad is posted i will distribute evenly the £1,000 between the ads. Please send in your submissions by EOD today.
Thank you.0 -

Its a real shame. You could have used that money instead to buy a BTL and provide housing to someone who can not afford to buy.0 -

And here are their addresses:
Don't mention it.
Is that the best you can come up with?
Why would shelter list those that it helps or their addresses?0 -

These outfits don't home or assist a single person. They are just scumbag arms of the Labour Party, demanding free money for !!!!!!!!!!s at other people's expense. They are fake charities who do exactly nothing and who fritter donations on lobbying for even more of other people's money.
A few personal bankruptcies among the riffraff who staff them and we'd soon stop hearing from them. Parasites. The money recovered could then be spent on actually alleviating homelessness rather than on paying themselves to bleat about it.
Some buy to let parasite slamming charities that help homeless people.
Yes, it’s the MSE Debate board.0 -

Didn't take long - from a McMillan advert:
Bottom left small print - "We receive 95p from every pound donated in this way."
I'd like your £1000 to go to McMillan please which is a charity I work closely with in the hospital. Look forward to your link here shortly confirming you have made the transfer.0 -
I donate time and expertise to my chosen charity. That goes straight to helping the people who need it. I also donate things not money so that I can see that it goes to the right place.
In answer to people who have a trauma in their early life. Sometimes this leads to a mental illness and sometimes it is caused by a mental illness. There are a lot of people who are very disabled but don't look as if they are. Some people self medicate with alcohol or drugs.
If you put someone who has a mental illness and an addiction into a flat on their own with no support they will go back onto the streets because they won't be able to cope.
A lot of problems are caused as I said by the NHS and its terrible treatment of people with mental illness. If there was the support and more research into medication a lot of the people who self medicate would stop doing it.0 -

It says they receive 95p for every £1 you send them in that way
It does not say how much of that original £1 ends up in end charitable efforts0
