Is this a neutral?

Hi

My experience of buying (and selling) on Ebay has been very positive so far.

However I purchased an item on 19 Dec, the sale items for this seller have a long description and state clearly they despatch in 48 hours. I added a note when I paid that I was no rush for the item as I didn't need it for Christmas (it was a homeware item).

The seller marked the item as despatched on 21 (Thursday) and when I hadn't received it by this Thursday I messaged the seller to ask for the tracking number so I knew when to expect it. Didn't hear anything so messaged again 24 hours later and seller got back to me to say she was away from home but if I hadn't had it by Sunday then she would find the receipt and let me have it. The listing was postage via Hermes but she sent it by RM. I had sent several items on 20 Dec which had arrived by Christmas so that's why I chased it.

Received it today, happy with item but despite marking it as despatched on Ebay on 21, she didn't post it until 27 Dec.

Is this a neutral or a mark down in stars or neither - it was a day late. I don't want to be harsh but it feels a bit dishonest in my book. It was posted with APL which I presume you only get at the PO (not sure what Ebay postage looks like).

Thanks
Ms C

  • What is APL?

Apologies if I missed it but what was the estimated due date of the item?

Estimated delivery is Wednesday, 27 to Friday, 29 December. It arrived today, 30th.

The postage label is one that's printed off in the Post Office - with the price and date on.

I'm using APL as a term as that's what they call it when you do RM/TNS surveys, I thought that's what it was called, sorry.

  • To be honest, if the item arrived a day late, in the Christmas season, I wouldn't be unduly worried (unless it was needed by the Big Day).

I've not heard of APL and am none the wiser by your RM/TNS reference as I have no idea what that is either.

If it would make you feel better leaving a neutral then do, but really, it's the season of goodwill. You got what you wanted (no SNAD) on a day later than the estimate, over the holiday period.

Thank you but it wasn't the holiday period that slowed it down. She said she posted it 21st but didn't post till the 27th (the first date by which I should have received it).

TNS do surveys for the Royal Mail, you can earn stamps for sending/receiving items. When you post a parcel, TNS refer to getting an APL label at the Post Office for sending an item.

  • Does it really matter? Why agonise when you've already said the item wasn't urgent. Feedback on ebay doesn't need a poll to help you decide, surely!

Feedback needs to reflect what you think, not what other people might or might not think. Just don't overthink it.

I think it would be petty to give a neutral. You were in no hurry for the item, it's arrived, presumably it's in good shape. What will you give the seller of the next purchase which arrives a week, rather than a day, late - a negative? Then what do you give as feedback if another purchase turns out to be absolutely dreadful?

Other times of year, yes perhaps a bit of a fib on seller's part deserves a mark down.

At Christmas, when people can be busy, rushing, distracted and the plan to post on 21st might have hit a last minute fail - Hermes not the best when under pressure? I'd be inclined to forgive if otherwise everything is OK.

You pretty much 'gave permission' for late posting anyway when you added a note saying no rush, not needed for Christmas so not sure the seller has done anything wrong at all.

I still don't understand the reference. Are you miffed that you think the seller got a freebie postage label?

You really are over-thinking this. Leave your feedback and move on with your life.

Leave a positive but with a 1* for dispatch/postage for lying about when it was posted.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
