Tidied my dressing table last night - corralled it all into a nice box.

All the crud in the bin, not counting it as lots of small bits like hair bands etc

102 - 103) 2 small blow up balls for the swimming pool in the CS bag.

2 more bags to the charity shop today with some clothes I no longer wear and 2 large toy fire engines that my boy has grown out of. One of them kept setting itself off making noises 'brm brm...nee naa nee naa'. I did get some strange looks as I was walking along the road.

I was a little sad to see it go as he used to love it so much but then I reminded myself I bought it from a charity shop in the first place and now some other little one can have the fun of playing with it. Also, the sounds used to drive me nuts! You need to remind yourself sometimes everything in the past wasn't lovely.

401-410 yet more books to League of Friends shop. 10 books is about as many as I want to carry on the bus. I have worked out i am on course for achieving my target.. Also decluttered far more than I would otherwise have done.
  • I really laughed at Ginmonster's post. I too have a DH who keeps cardboard boxes and who cleverly sorts them into Russian doll type boxes -one inside each other. I thought my DH was the only one who kept such a store. Well after a long break I am back- I have been in the wardrobes getting out summer stuff for my CS.
125- 136 summer clothes. Worrying was the fact that four items were from charity shops and never worn
    136-148 books to CS
    149 old mascara to bin
150 used up deodorant to bin
151 pile of old cosmetic sample jars to bin
    152 load of emails deleted
153 pile of plastic veg punnet things to recycling
154 another dead plant out to compost
156-157 two pairs worn out socks to recycling

I am working hard at the wardrobe but , being retired I don't want to give away clothes that have still got a lot of wear in them, so I am working on two fronts - 1- be very selective about what I buy from CS and 2- if I haven't worn it in five years -out it goes. Please don't laugh at the five years limit - I have stuff I abandon for a long time and then one day -out they come.
  • Hi everyone

Retiredinfrance, re your five year limit - if you have the space I don’t see a problem. I know what you mean though - sometimes one can go off an item of clothing for a long while then bingo you see it in the wardrobe & out it comes. :rotfl:

:j:j:j The council turned up this morning :j:j:j we now have a clear drive so the 2008/2018 is confirmed :j:j:j

Finally managed to get in touch with Natalie at the cs - someone will phone tomorrow to arrange collection of 5’ tall glass fronted cabinet :) then once collected I can add to my list :T

I emptied all 8 drawers in my wall unit, cleaned them & now only FIVE have items in them :T
Each of the five has a specific use e.g. stationery; napkins & tablecloths; overseas drawer i.e. plugs, wallet, currency etc.

    So to continue:

    2009 - 2011 Pens used up & binned
    2012 - 2015 Magazines read & recycled
    2016 Newspaper read & recycled
2017 Election pamphlet read & recycled
2018 Coffee tin emptied, used for kitchen detritus & binned

    :j :j :j FIRST LOT OF 2018 items decluttered in 2018 :j :j :j

Now I can start again :)

    B1 - B3 Plastic milk cartons washed & recycled
B4 - B5 Medium Sized Cardboard Boxes dismantled & recycled
    B6 - B11 Cards recycled
    B12 - B22 Personal correspondence & old passports SHREDDED
B23 - B27 Two foot by two foot carpet tiles to the Tip
B28 - B29 Large offcuts of new carpet wrapped & stored in garage
B30 - B32 Shoe Box Size boxes filled, wrapped & posted to DSis
B33 - B45 Four pens, 2 Pin Badges, Travel Book, Adult Poncho, “Superbike” motif waterproof wallet, Leather suitcase address tag, Canada Decal, Banff Decal, Calgary Flames NHL Sticker - ALL to cs

    B46 - B48 Ribbon, 2 Sets of 21 safety pins - to cs Crafting
B49 Partial Box of Push Pins to cs admin

B50 - B51 Boxes of flavoured teabags for cs staff & visitors (I always get offered a cup of tea when I drop stuff off:) )

Of course, now it will really slow down until we (DH will be roped in :rotfl:) tackle the ‘Understairs Cupboard of Doom’ & I start to tackle the boxes of Personal/Sentimental stuff :o

Well done Mrs SD! It's great to see people really making progress isn't it?

Hubby is starting to come on board now he's noticing the house looking like it's got a bit more space. He even said to me that as he has booked a few days off when it's my birthday we could maybe go to the tip as he has a load of old computer bits that need recycling. As I pointed out to him, he knows how to show a girl a good time for her birthday! He did clarify he didn't mean on my actual birthday but it made me chuckle nonetheless.
  • Well done, Mrs SD. I love your wall unit and all the category organised drawers - so easy to find things and that is one of the great bonuses of decluttering - we can actually see what we've got. Thanks for the encouragement re my "old" clothes. Today

138 silk blouse with ruffles out to CS as it is a real pain to iron and so I avoid wearing it.
