Im more of a fancy hotel person now I'm older, would only settle for Hilton or Radisson blu but I really fancy getting a little caravan now eldest is school age, as my best memories of holidays as a kid were staying in camp sites. Wife not so keen though.

I’ve never paid more than £1200 for a week away for a family of four in school holidays and we’ve had some lovely trips for less than that. Mainly in Europe, some in the UK. There are some countries where there are lovely resorts, cities and places to visit that don’t cost a fortune. Try Estonia for a start. We did a week there in a self-catering apartment, hired a car and saw a lot of the north of the country for £950. Food, whether eating in or out is much cheaper than in most of Europe and the tourist attractions were comparatively cheap, too. It’s a beautiful country with a fascinating history.
