I didn't get this at first but presume you mean because in a plastic tub. I always make my own as prefer the taste anyways.

Am up to 12 grocery NSDs so far this month, but really need to go shopping tomorrow as starting to run very low on basic necessities such as loo roll and milk. Just goes to show how much I was hoarding stuff eh :rotfl:

Hope you all have a great weekend and stay warm and safe

  • Afternoon everyone
Hugs to those who aren't well. A lot of my team have had a few days off work. I've avoided the flu so far, so crossing my fingers that continues.

Reporting spend to date this month of £191.55/£220. Got shopping for next 7 days so will leave £28.45 for the last 4 days of month. Doable I hope :D

Eighth Anniversary 100 Posts Name Dropper I've been Money Tipped!
Spent £16.16 to top up what we had in so should only need bread and milk for the rest of the week so that makes £99.31/£190 with one weekly shop to go I'm hoping that we'll finish on £40 under budget.
  • Popped in to sm as we needed bananas and onions and came out £6.06 lighter as hubby got distracted by chocolate and I also picked up garam masala, couscous and coconut milk which we had run out of but could have lived without.

Still on track but need to remind myself there's a week and a half left of the month as it feels like it's nearly over.

    £74.24/£100
  • Can I join up. Need motivation to shop on the cheap for a bit. Family of five plus dog with a current budget of £390 a month which will hopefully increase a bit in April. Maybe by then I will know what I need to spend and not need the increase.ha ha. My month starts on the 26th but I've worked it out as 90 per week so here goes from Monday. Have meal planned next week and written my list so fingers crossed. Just a pain that I'm starting with limited stock and only 12 nappies left but hey ho the challenge is set. £ 90 per week.

Use up your stores. I have found loads of lazy garlic in the cupboard under the stairs. I get given eggs but don't eat that many; probably should eat more for health. Do not go to the shops!
Yes to stores. I love lazy garlic, I buy 1kg jars and freeze n bag in ice cube portions. I wouldn't worry about the eggs - they ain't healthy.

Sorry, I didn't really make sense, I always make my own as they all contain eggs, which I don't eat, but the egg free mayo I buy to make it, has a plastic lid and I am trying to go plastic free for January - I haven't turned into Nigella, I'm just doing without loads. I'm finding even the ingredients to make your own stuff is packed in plastic - catch 22.

Bought coffee from the coffee grinder man - £4.20 for 200g - not a bad price, the shop was rammed. It's okay..... - I want to give him my custom, but think I will get a different blend next time - it's a bit wishy washy!!!!! Spent £4 at market on veg/salad, so £8.20 spent. Have updated sig.

Love reading all of your posts!

I had a very rough week, 3/4 of us struck down with the flu.. we ate less simply because we had zero appetite.. but I spent money on cough syrups and boiled sweets to try and keep the coughing at bay.
I actually had small top ups this week due to it, needing bread, milk etc and on one of the days we were all craving grease - so we had chippy chips (a compromise considering we have not had fast food this year so far. £3.60 wasn't too bad for that.)

I kind of groaned at £4.75 for the cough syrup - as it didn't seem to do anything at all but I had to try something.

I almost didn't do the big shop today too, woke up to more snow falling - but I made myself go out in it and picked up soups to put in the cupboard too. I was annoyed that I let them run out as I really could have used some when I was ill. We really didn't move from the sofa for 2 whole days and ate nothing but the left over ice poles from summer and ready salted crisps..

Its nice to see the little ones have a full appetite again so on today's shop I picked up extra fresh fruit, juice and cake.

3/7 No spend days this week.

For anyone who has this flu.. wishing you better soon! Its been vile.

  • Hi everyone,
well I am hanging my head in shame.:o I have just emptied and washed my store cupboards and I have thrown away three bags of out of date foodstuffs. Loads of spices, baking goods etc.
I now can see exactly what I have and have vowed to be more disciplined in what I buy.

I make banana bread but add cocoa and/or choc chips as I am not keen on plain banana bread.

I also make banana pancakes which are gorgeous with yogurt and berries. There are lots of recipes on line and they can be made with very few ingredients :)

I saw tom kerridge make some banana pancakes the other night and they did look nice.
I haven't bought any this week, but there are two left from last week that I may do something with.

My delivery came, I'm usually really impressed with ocado, rarely are there any substitutions. Today there was a missing item for which they couldn't provide an alternative...... mushrooms. They sell ten different variants of a plain mushroom. I popped down to a local shop and bought a punnet.
