I'm currently on 60% discount from Sky (TV and Movies with a 2TB box) which was due to run out in around 5 weeks.
I was just gearing up for my annual haggle when yesterday I received a letter and an email from Sky saying:

Hello Tom,
Your offers are about to expire but don't worry, we extended them for another 12 months so you can continue watching the shows you love for less. It's our way of saying thank you for being with us.
You don't have to do a thing - we updated your account so your Sky TV package and offer stay exactly the same. You can check your latest bill at sky.com/mysky
Got a question? Go to sky.com/offerFAQs

Is this something new or have others had similar?
Weird thing is part of me is going to miss the thrill of the haggle

I wonder if they are checking people who haggle and figure its easier to keep a steady income flow.0

No, it's not new but seems to be very random and pretty rare. They wouldn't answer my many questions on who gets it and why (more importantly why I didn't).
That's why they'll lose me as a customer in the new year once we've finally found somewhere new to move to for phone/BB at least. If they don't value me as a customer then sod 'em.0 -

Yep I had this earlier in the summer. They’ve even let me keep the discount % when I upgraded to sky q a couple of months ago too. It’s the first time I’ve had it despite having sky for a few years prior, and my parents have never had it despite being with sky for 15 years odd. So who knows how and why they decide to send it. Parents also haggle each time too so theirs no difference between us in that respect.MFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0 -

You might still get that thrill, I got a letter stating similar but when I checked my account they hadn't applied it - had to ring them to get them to give it. Even then they tried to renege and also charge an admin fee! So you may get your wish yet.0 -
I just had to go through the whole cancellation farce again - 60% discount last year. Only offered 40% then 50% discount after two attempts with their retention team, so I'll see what they offer me through the post this time.
The guy kept talking about great new things that would be coming in 6-12 months, that he'd hate me to miss out on if I cancelled - anyone got any idea what that might be?0 -

So, tell him you can cancel now then get it again in 6 to 12 months time and you will save 6 - 12 months subscription and wont miss anything anyway. Hes talking BS, as usual for Sky.
In fact just about to cancel myself. Had enough of paying for the privilege of watching only 2 programs that wouldn't be available on freeview (one of those isnt even on for another 12 months at least). The dire TV over Christmas has persuaded me that i really am a mug paying for endless almost daily repeats of crap when i can get endless repeats of crap for free.,0 -

Having said that, all the providers are constantly striving to offer new and exciting hardware on which to watch the same old crap!:D0 -

Dont they just. Sky phoned me up to offer me Sky Q (annoyingly they have a free pass through my Sky Talk Shield). It would only cost me £50 installation and another £12 per month to be able to do nothing more than i do now. I have NEVER EVER been in a situation where i could find 6 things i might want to watch at the same time (Really, has anyone with Sky?), also i really cant see the need for sky on any of the other TVs in the house. Sky Q offers nothing more than i have now but for more money and what i have now is really nothing more than i could have for free anyway. I am indeed a mug.0 -

In my house I already have two Sky+HD decoders so, apart from the "extra" recording capability, Sky Q offers me nothing.
In fact, the Sky Q Miniboxes are reliant on wi-fi internet and apparently suffer from frequent dropouts.
So I think I'll leave off subscribing to Q anytime soon..0 -
Hi people
Just wondered if I could pick anybody’s brain here about sky !
My contract ends on the 7th jan (5 days left!!) i currently got the full package with everything, tv, films, sports, HD, broadband and phone, my contract was 10 months with 50% off and 2 months normal, I’ve got through to the retention team and they’ve gave me 2 prices, 1 for my existing package to continue for 18 months at £81 per month (I think she said it was a 40% discount) or secondly upgrade to sky Q the 2 TB box with 1 mini box, the cost quoted to me was £118.99 per month for 18months. Is this a good deal or not ? I don’t want to cut my nose off to spite my face but on the other hand I don’t want to feel I’m being ripped off either.
Any info greatly appreciated
Cheers0
