Totally loved the "A" for advents ...

Yes.......
That explains why it kept going to the topI'd like to propose Z: for the magazine daily comps. I don't enter them myself, but it'll make it so much easier if you do. Not to be confused with M: for monthly.
While we're on the subject can I also propose 14FEB instead of 14/02 . 14FEB will accurately filter out the exact date and nothing else whereas 14/02 gets split into 2 sort strings of 14 and 02 so is less efficient.
Like the Z idea - might not need M for monthly if there aren't any posted like that.
Would the sort work using 14FEB? Would you end up with all the 14 together?Rational judgement, now, at this very moment.
Virtuous action, now, at this very moment.

Yes, but its better than that.
The triangle button sorts the forum threads, but there is also the option to search, using the box on the right hand side. What follows is for use with the search box.
Whatever search string you use (usually 12/02 or something like) the search app splits into pieces wherever it finds a punctuation mark ie something not a letter or number. So it searches for (12 02). Look in the green bar at the top of search results and you'll better see what its doing to you. 12FEB has no punctuation, and so the search will return only comps which end on 12 February.
Including this date format anywhere in the title has the desired effect so we could keep the E: xx/xx as now as long as you want. It is 5 characters extra on the thread titles and will make a load of difference.0 -

Why search? As long as threads are all titled in the same format the "Sorted By" option with "Thread Title" selected puts all the days in order and it is just a question of flicking through to the day wanted and unlike search there is no limit on the number of results. Also you can narrow the sort using the "From The" option to change the timescale and only see any added in the last day, 2 days, week etc.0 -
Remember also that there is no such thing as a "monthly" as far as we are concerned and there is a movement towards there being no "weekly" comps either.Like the Z idea - might not need M for monthly if there aren't any posted like that.I'd like to propose Z: for the magazine daily comps. Monthly comps are posted, they are posted individually each month, so if we go down that route the M: would be great as currently they're not indicated as such. Then we could enter monthly's as and when we choose rather than first or last day as we probably currently do.
A: AdventsDaily
W: Weekly
M: Monthly
MD: Mag Daily
O: Ongoing (What does that even mean?)
Also, if there was say a competition that runs several months with an end date, couldn't it be posted with that end date ie M: 31/12 (or ie W: 31/12), but where we used to add to a Monthly thread that now wouldn't be required, and wouldn't be required to be posted monthly?
I suppose that's where the Ongoing comes in, where there is no end date?
p.s. I haven't voted as haven't been around for the Advents#StaySafeWishing you a Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year0 -

searching 14/02 is never going to be as effective as sorting the board by thread titleI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. The A: during advent season meant a little more work for BGs searching for comps to send to GO because there were 2 seperate blocks of ended comps
added to that a lot of posters lately have been putting 2 spaces between the E: & the date, they all get grouped at the end of the board (you don't see the 2 spaces when you look at thread titles on the page but if they are there it affects the sort order) so another place to look for ended comps
personally I didn't mind during advent season as it makes it easier to compbut if we were to go with all the various letter suggestions above it will make harder on the BGs

I really liked the A, it made shifting through the comps much easier.0

I'm one of the few who has voted for the no change option. My thinking is why change what has always worked perfectly well.
I know we all have our own way of using the board, I comp from the main board even during the advents. Every morning I just go back to where I left off the day before and work to the front of the board again. During December, once I am up to date I just run through the advent sticky in case I've missed anything.
If I've got time towards the end of the month I sort the board by thread title in the display options to see if I've missed any. I don't even know what the triangle button is:o
This has always worked easily for me, dailies and weeklies usually get posted as such in the thread title and if I like them I bookmark them. I do enter mag dailies but from the separate thread so ignore them on the main board.
I can appreciate that for people who don't do advents, they become a nuisance on the board so the A was a great idea, but can't see that changing format for the rest of the year would make much difference. In light of the comments by Glad this seems unfair to make work for the BGs when there is not that much gain for anyone else.0 -
Thanks for all the votes and comments so far.
There was a thread before the madness of the advents discussing the "Regular" sub forum, can't find the link atm. The basic feeling was that this caused extra work and a lot of compers were unaware of it's purpose. The idea of using different letters on the main board was to make it easier to find certain types of competitions.
I had assumed not having a sub forum would be less work for the BGs. I assume the issue thith a "A" and the extra space is only if you are using the sort function? If you search instead for "31/12" doesn't that get all competitions ending on the 31st December regardless of the prefix or the spaces?Rational judgement, now, at this very moment.
Virtuous action, now, at this very moment.

It is much easier to use the sort function than try searching and I believe "search" is also a bigger hit on forum performance than sort.
Apart from extra work for the BGs the "A" made extra work for those who sort by title (that's if they realised competitions were missing) as all comps for one date no longer appeared in one place - additional letters would require looking in even more places.
I don't sort by title so it makes little difference to me but the natural extension of different letters would then be to do away with them completely and have titles that begin "cash", "holiday", "tech", vouchers etc before the date. Then sort would put all the cash competitions etc together rather like many other competition sites.0
