bit of a vent, Snide comment on facebook.

Options
Hi,

Me, my wife and my newborn daughter celebrated our first Christmas together on boxing day as I was working a 12 hour shift xmas day. My wife saw my in-laws on xmas day and exchanged presents as I wouldnt be seeing them as usual this year.

A bit later on after i opened my presents my wife asked if i'd said thank you to my in-laws. I hadn't at that point and got a bit sidetracked, by the time I thought about it again it had gone 10pm so i thought id leave it for the next day. Later on when i was in bed my wife asked again if I had said thank you. I told her i hadn't at which point she started saying she would get aggro over it. She wouldnt really elaborate when i pressed her on what she meant so i decided at this point although it was late in the day i'd send a whatsapp message to my in-laws. Only after i'd done this did my wife reveal that my mother-in-law had put a snide comment on facebook not naming me directly but shaming me for not thanking her for receiving the present.

this really bothered me because it made me look like i could be pressured to say thank you in this manner and also not that much time had passed since i'd received the present. I wouldn't expect a thank you the same day. I should point out that I never received a thank you message from my in laws although when I pointed this out to my wife she said her mum had said to her to say thank you to me.

on a side note I think my MIL was in a foul mood on boxing day as she was on her own. She left my wife a real snotty message on the phone after she didnt answer it whilst she was feeding our baby.

Thanks for reading

    Cheeky mare....

Although facebook is just a big pile of 'look how lovely I am and how fab my life is ' and full of passive agressive 'I'm upset but I'm not going to tell you about it until you ask lots of times' and 'hugs hun'

Sorry, I ranted all over your rant :)

If yours is like that, you need to upgrade your friends to some more interesting / sensible ones.

I send a hand written card to say thank you - they take 48 hours at least!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

My kids will be sending written cards to their Aunties today, which prob won't get there until after the new year now. Tough titty if anyone is "offended" by that.
  • I hate that - Facebook can be a good thing in some respects (for example we were able to find out our school was shut when we had the snow recently), but on the flip side you have the odd few people who leave cryptic vents about others, but actually wouldn't have the balls to say it to their face.

  • Families and Facebook! Sometimes people will post things to get attention from their friends, of the 'oh, isn't that terrible' sort, rather than wanting to have a go at the actual individual: the driving factor is the number of 'likes' and comments, when they're potentially not that bothered about receiving a thanks in the first place. It sounds to me as though this could be the case here, especially if she's feeling lonely, and wanting a bit of attention.
