NO. I want quality gifts. Not something that was bough the previous year (and clearly from Boots cash chemist). If I get anything from these brands, they will go straight in the bin. The person who gives them will be told so IF THEY ASK.

I was always taught “I WANT gets NOTHING!”
No one (especially a money saver!) could be so rude & ungrateful!
Surely this must be a wind up?!!
Too much of a good thing can be wonderful!
  • Over the moon went in for a wash bag, not for the sale, but were all too expensive but found a perfect sized wash bag gift set for £3.75 when i went to have a quick nosy at what was left so saved money and got all the contents too.

Icalled into my local store on the way to work at 9.30 and it looked like a swarm of locusts had gone through. Nothing at all left on the sales shelves.

Spent way too much as usual, not bad to say I didn't need anything!
Got all that I wanted and a couple of things I'd bought at 50% off which is a bit cheeky but will now be going back :p

Some of the stuff was never worth it in the first place so I try not to think of it as saving 70%. Prime example being the bronze sanctuary spa tin (which I bought as I loved the tin) now a couple of years back the equivalent gift included body lotion, shower gel and scrub, this year only a shower gel and scrub was included, so considering they're always on 3for2 individually at Christmas anyway, it was never such a good deal.
No wonder people wait for 70% day! Very happy to get it for £4.20 though :T

Chuffed to get the Laura Ashley advent calendar for my Mum and a very nice Ted Baker set which my Brother will love too.. :T

It sounds like everyone had a very good day buying the reductions.

The only thing I would maybe mention is that if I or anyone in my family or any of my friends got a gift that is TED BAKER, FCUK, SOAP & GLORY, JACK WILLS, BAYLIS & HARDING, SANCTUARY, MARK HILL or CHAMPNEY, they will go straight in the bin as I know where they are from and that the only thought that went into the gift was that the price was reduced from Boots Chemist many months before it was gifted.

I make sure everyone knows this. The list of brands gets added to each year but basically, they are on a blacklist.

Sorry but if any of my family or friends said that to me, they wouldn't be getting anything! Its just rude, especially when money is tight for so many people. I was brought up to receive a gift with a smile and a thank you even if I hated it.

...and let's face it, money / cost doesn't necessarily = quality.

I would muc rather have an inexpensive gift from someone who cared than something expensive from someone where I was just another name on the list. I would also rather someone bought me something in a sale (if they really wanted to give a gift) than left themself short or in debt to buy something that wasn't, esp becasue they felt compelled to else it would be received with vitriol. Then again, I wouldn't treat friends or family like that.

Anyway.....changing the subject (slightly) .... anyone else slightly sad it's over? :D

I would rather people bought stuff when it was reduced than pay full price - I love to think they got a bargain!! And yes I am a bit sad it's all over :(

... on a more positive note...! Loving reading everyone’s sale tales! I agree that it’s not the same as it was 5+ years ago.

Having declared that I wouldn’t go this year (and buying a few things for myself at 50% off online when sale launched - luckily, as the items were OOS everywhere instore near me even at 50%) I ended up popping into one store at opening. Managed to get a few Champneys men’s sets (add on pressies for DH and FIL) and a No7 eye palette for myself. Paid with points so really happy! There was tons of S&G etc but no Sanctuary/FCUK/Champneys and I still have some stock from last year so really didn’t need to top up anyway.

As other posters have said, I tend to use these gifts as extras for family at Christmas, rather than main pressies - so the recipients benefit, not me! Also don’t judge unless you know someone’s circumstances - this could be the gifter’s way of affording a decent gift on a tight budget. But irrespective, I was brought up with the manners that if someone is kind enough to give you a gift - no matter how cheap/unsuitable/unappealing - you accept with grace and a thank you. It’s the thought that counts, right? Very sad that some people don’t have manners and have such contempt for others - thankfully my family and friends don’t suffer from this affliction, otherwise they would be receiving zilch (not even a Zoella advent calendar :rotfl:) I would be amazed if anyone even bothers with a gift to the troll, no matter how high quality!
