My mum uses S&G so I picked out a set that I knew she would like (so thought DID go into it) and if they hadn't had that set, then I wouldn't have bothered getting her one!
My mother only uses a few particular brands, Ted Baker being one of them. The sale is a perfect time to get them-perfect little gift to accompany other gifts for celebrations throughout the year. It's something she uses so why not? We didn't go to the sale this year, too ill to be battling through a crowd. It's also good for people who like to spread the cost of Christmas(or gift giving in general-every boxing day my mother sits down and makes a list of gifts she knows she needs for the next year and works from there)2018 wins-12wins0 -
Spent way too much as usual, not bad to say I didn't need anything!
Got all that I wanted and a couple of things I'd bought at 50% off which is a bit cheeky but will now be going back
Some of the stuff was never worth it in the first place so I try not to think of it as saving 70%. Prime example being the bronze sanctuary spa tin (which I bought as I loved the tin) now a couple of years back the equivalent gift included body lotion, shower gel and scrub, this year only a shower gel and scrub was included, so considering they're always on 3for2 individually at Christmas anyway, it was never such a good deal.
No wonder people wait for 70% day! Very happy to get it for £4.20 though :T
Chuffed to get the Laura Ashley advent calendar for my Mum and a very nice Ted Baker set which my Brother will love too.. :T0 -
Why not give them to a charity rather than bin them?
Strange way to go though as a majority of the stock is sold before the sale, so it is more likely to have been bought not in the sale than in the sale, but each to their own.
Depends which Christmas they're received. It wouldn't bother me getting them for the Christmas that they were on sale, but I wouldn't be happy about using something over a year old, due to the preservatives deteriorating over time. Even if unopened, they have a limited shelf life.
If I buy anything in the sale, I buy it for my own use, and only if I can use it within 6 months.
I agree with giving them to charity though, if they're that year's stock, and you just don't like/want them. Totally unnecessary to bin them, and rather nasty.0 -
I really like the Sanctuary tin too, its lovely! Although I didnt look at the label properly and thought it was a body wash and body cream. I already have 2 of the scrubs as don't use them that often. As you say though, still a bargain at £4.20.
I liked the small S&G tins too as the tins are useful to use. I received the lime one as a gift at christmas and bought myself the Soaper Heroes one today0 -

Totally agree, I do a big Boots sale shop to stock up and buy other presents when I see them throughout the year, it spreads the cost and means I don't have to stress at Christmas as most of my present are sorted.
The stuff I get from Boots is usually just extras and stocking fillers; I always make sure they have some other present too.
Some of the gifts are great to break down and make up little gift bags with; so people would never really know it came out of a sale set.0 -
It sounds like everyone had a very good day buying the reductions.
The only thing I would maybe mention is that if I or anyone in my family or any of my friends got a gift that is TED BAKER, FCUK, SOAP & GLORY, JACK WILLS, BAYLIS & HARDING, SANCTUARY, MARK HILL or CHAMPNEY, they will go straight in the bin as I know where they are from and that the only thought that went into the gift was that the price was reduced from Boots Chemist many months before it was gifted.
I make sure everyone knows this. The list of brands gets added to each year but basically, they are on a blacklist.
I do get your point (especially if you've made it clear you don't want those brands). In my case, I aim for brands that my recipients love (and everyone knows I do the boots sale - I'm very up front about it). I also don't always particularly save money as such, for example, as my parents get bigger sets than they would if I had to pay full price. So they appreciate that they're getting more bang for my bucks.
Anyway, for the first time ever, we made it to our chosen store before opening and were first in the queue (probably 100+ people by the time they opened the doors). Lovely people queuing (quite a few regulars) and although it was a bit of a scrum, everybody was polite and helped each other. It took an hour to queue to checkout but everyone was chatting etc so it went by quick enough. Managed to get some Sanctuary sets which is always top of my parents lists and some Superdry stuff which goes down well with the teens.
We did hear the shop staff having a little (lighthearted) moan about Martin Lewis :money: as they were short staffed because they weren't notified until last minute........ I guess they don't look on here then
And a big plus, I managed to pick up my new glasses while I was there and collect the sale stuff I'd ordered from M&S so I really made the most of the petrol/parking costs.0 -
Argh I'm so frustrated I could cry!! I've sat here all afternoon thinking about that S&G makeup set that I couldn't find this morning. So I decided to try a different Boots after I'd picked the kids up from school. Sat in traffic for almost 20 minutes to get there, only to find that someone else had just picked up the ONE remaining set!! I half stalked her round the shop as she looked undecided but when I saw her take it to the till I gave up and came home empty handed
If only I had got through one or two sets of lights, I'd have been there before her!!!0 -

Yeah, you would've thought it would've been a body lotion and shower gel in it, I'm okay though as I'd actually rather have the scrub as don't get through the lotions so fast.
Would've loved the matching candle but didn't have any where I went.0 -

Fortunately my friends & family are not as ungrateful as yours obviously are!
My niece in particular loves soap & glory & another Ted Baker, the younger girls like make up, nail varnish etc. & couldn't care less where they came from. They have been taught to appreciate gifts however small - not a bad lesson in life!
Personally I am more than happy to receive any gift I can make use of even if it came from pound land!. I couldn't care less if it was brought in the sales & If I don't want it I pass it on to someone who might like it
You must have more money than sense if you chuck perfectly good things in the bin & not very money saving!
I agree, at least give unwanted gift to charity rather than chuck them.:eek:Too much of a good thing can be wonderful!0 -

No way would I give to charity shop. Putting it in the bin is a nod to the person who thinks they got a bargain.0
