When I arrived at Dragonville, Durham at 8.50 there were about a dozen people in the queue. Doors opened at 9 and everyone hurriedly picked up baskets/bags on the way to "sale corner". There were a lot of S&G sets left so people had at armfuls of them - I didn't bother as I still have some stuff left from last year's set. There wasn't any Sanctuary or Champneys or Ted Baker stuff this year. I was after Jack Wills Body Spray Trio so I managed to get a few of those. There were a lot of Jack Wills Back Packs & the Jack Wills Holdalls but no-one was making a grab for them! Met a familiar face from last year so this year we remembered to swap phone numbers so we can keep in touch for next year. My 6 items would have cost £40 in the pre-Christmas 342 offers, £30 in the 50% off sale but today cost £18. Result!!!

See you all next year ladies - love the thrill of the chase even when there isn't much I want. Next year however the star gifts might be better shapes/sizes and in containers you can keep using for storage and I might be after Sanctuary and S&G again. Who knows???

I have just come back from dragonville . I meant to go on the way back from work but forgot to take any money! They had loads of jack wills bags, both male and female and loads of the zoella things. I was surprised there was anything left at 3pm. I bought a couple of the bags for my two boys but resisted buying one for me. I like the bag but wouldn't use most of the contents so left it. I wasn't going to go to the sale for the first time in years but curiosity eventually got the better of me! I too remember the "good old days" when no one knew about the sale :)

No way would I give to charity shop. Putting it in the bin is a nod to the person who thinks they got a bargain.

Or could be seen a nod to being mean, rude and ungrateful. Just because you don't want something, doesn't mean somebody else might not. Or at least put it on Freecycle or a local giving site - someone can come to you to collect it and you wouldn't even need to leave your house.

  • I was lucky today as my local is a small store however one large Ted baker set £15 hidden at bottom shelf, also got jack wills bags for men and women, and smaller s and g sets, got the s and g make up wonder glam but may return as changed mind. It's unopened can I do this? No sanctuary or champneys so a little disappointed as I'm out of sanctuary. Also no French connection this year

Argh I'm so frustrated I could cry!! I've sat here all afternoon thinking about that S&G makeup set that I couldn't find this morning. So I decided to try a different Boots after I'd picked the kids up from school. Sat in traffic for almost 20 minutes to get there, only to find that someone else had just picked up the ONE remaining set!! I half stalked her round the shop as she looked undecided but when I saw her take it to the till I gave up and came home empty handed :(
If only I had got through one or two sets of lights, I'd have been there before her!!! :(

Oh no - perhaps it wasn't meant to be. Keep an eye out when you're in stores though just in case one or two appear from stock clear outs / returns or the like.

Storck I've only followed these sale threads for a few years but thank you for all your help over those years. I hope the change in circumstances is a positive one (have Boots hired you as head of marketing and thus you have had to sign an NDA on future dates? ;):D)

Well I popped to my local today - was there 30mins before opening with just one other lady - a few more by the time it opened but nothing compared to the crowds in the past few previous years. I managed to get the few bits I wanted (which didn't include the pink stuff) and most people were very good natured (albeit- I'll have a chat with you but will gouge your eyes out if you try to pick up the last of an item I want kind of good nature :rotfl:)

There was one mother and daughter though where the mother proceeded to empty the shelf of all the Charlie or So body sprays while the daughter came up with her big blue basket saying 'I've got all the Maybelline stuff' (and there was a LOT!) which I think was a bit OTT. I heard them say they were going to break them up so perhaps they were for gifts / tombolas?

I did want to grab the woman in the queue in front of me who had two Zoella advent calendars and yell 'OMG they're crap, what are you doing' but I figured that prob isn't the done thing even in a Boots sale :rotfl:

The one thing I did want (Jack Wills) they had sold out of shortly after xmas in my local, and none left / restocked today. However, I did take a quick drive to another nearby store (which has far less in the way of gift shelves) Well, there were 4 bags on the shelf of EXACTLY what I wanted, so I picked up two, then realised they weren't complete sets so picked up all 4 - went to the checkout and asked if it was ok if I stood at the end to sort through what was there because some had missing bits. SA was lovely and said sure - so I managed to make up two complete bags from the 4 I had - then hand the other non complete ones over so no other poor person picked them up by mistake.

All in all, I'm happy with what I bought - I did choose gifts specifically for people so they are not thoughtless, and nor could I have afforded them full price. So if that makes me a bad person for shopping in the sales..well....:tongue::tongue:

NO. I want quality gifts. Not something that was bough the previous year (and clearly from Boots cash chemist). If I get anything from these brands, they will go straight in the bin. The person who gives them will be told so IF THEY ASK.

Want Quality gifts? why not buy them yourself then? It's rude to expect things from people, it's even ruder to demand what they may not be able to afford. Just think of all the people who get nothing.

  • Well I 'tried' my DSis-in-law on Molton Brown and other 'quality gifts' and although she never said anything (I did put a note it to say pass to my DB if she didn't like as I knew I was taking a gamble) at the end of the day she likes Soap and Glory, it's her all time favourite.
Whether I buy before Christmas, 50% or 70% sale, I choose the S+G set carefully with all the things she likes in it......my DB pinches that from her aswell but for me she is happy and getting something she really likes, really uses and without a doubt she would honestly say that she doesn't give a cr*p whether it was in the sale or not, its the fact I have put thought in that counts

WOW. What an attitude of ungratefulness and petty childishness! I want, I want, I want. I'd suggest you take a good hard look at yourself and grow up. Those items could easily be given to a homeless shelter where they would be gratefully received and used. What total wastefulness to throw perfectly good items in the bin and terrible for the planet.
