Suicidal washing machine caused property damage, how to proceed?

I really don't get why people are giving the OP a hard time. I can't see that what they're asking for is so unreasonable - advice on whether a goodwill payment is likely or not is a relevant question which has now been answered in post 39.
And the OP has stayed courteous, unlike some of the rest of you.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Now stop giving sensible suggestions.
OP was wanting a microwave earlier I think.

I hope you have a specialist confirm that her eczema was caused by stress and not by finally cleaning the kitchen.
I am afraid I would be ashamed to post those photos.

We're also keeping all of our receipts for other extra costs like the laundrette, ordering food or eating out (the oven has been damaged, we couldn't use the hob, and the kitchen has been generally unusable until I got the dishwasher waste pipes replaced and we could finally use it). But what about things like our time dealing with this (phone calls, joiner/electrician visits, repairing the dishwasher), and mileage used having to travel when we would usually have stayed home and cooked/washed? Can I expect to be able to be compensated for those? And is it uantifiable losses only? The stress has made my wife break out in awful eczema all over her palms, so she has been in considerable discomfort, as well as being limited in what she can do - is that just not accounted for?
Any help appreciated.

You should try to substantiate that.

Whichever is lower of minimum wage for the hours we spent (around £150) or the difference between direct replacement of the same type of units, and getting a better fitted unit for the corner.
So £15 then.

And there was no reason whatsoever why unbreakable pots and pans couldn't be put back in the broken cupboard for temporary storage. Or why didn't you just move the table in to another room to sit around?
2 cupboards, both with shelves, mostly full of glassware or ceramic cooking pots and stuff that doesn't really stack at all. The broken cupboards are just that, broken; I can't use them to put anything into right now. And I don't know how many rooms you think we have large enough to add a dining table to, even if it wasn't covered in all the stuff.unholyangel wrote: »I was actually thinking if the pots n pans being on the table made dinner so inconvenient, I'd have put the pots and pans in storage containers. If I had no spare storage containers I'd have put them in a black bag if need be rather than having them on the table in the way.
And then put them where? There's still no other space to put them no matter how you want to pack them. And black bags, for breakable stuff, really?AndyMc..... wrote: »So £15 then.
We have spent much more than 2 hours in dealing with all the various aspects of this. Those are just the hours I spent repairing the dishwasher which I believe I'm entitled to legally for performing the repair in lieu of a professional. I'm talking about goodwill towards all the rest of the time and upheaval this has caused, especially around Christmas.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -
if the contents of the cupboards are so fragile why didnt they break when the cupboards got smashed beyond repair?0

The black bags were obviously for pots, pans and non-breakables.
When we were having work done that was going to last a few weeks, we put the contents of the entire kitchen (not just a few cupboards) into storage boxes and stacked them in the corner of the living room. Wasn't ideal but it was just temporary and kept everything within easy reach should we have needed it. Glasses were wrapped in bubblewrap/paper, put in cardboard boxes and again, stacked in a corner (although we did leave a couple out so we could use those ones).
I can understand the frustration and annoyance - no one ever needs extra hassle/inconvenience. But if it really was so bad as to impede on our ability to make meals for our family, I would have it all spread throughout the house rather than stacked on the kitchen table. You keep using that word. It's pretty clear from your pictures that the cupboards are still standing, the carcasses more or less have four sides and all the doors are even on! Perfect for the storage of unbreakables.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0
