  • So Today's list:

    • Cancel Capital One - Done
    • Call and sort out car - Done
    • Post parcels - Done
    • Put cheque in bank - Done
    • Gym
    • Quick tidy up when I get in
    • Electric Meter Reading

NSD today, my list is almost done. Work isn't as manic as I thought it would be so had the chance to do the boring life admin this morning. Also opened up a new current account which lets you have and re-name little pots, so will be much easier than trying to keep track of different bits in different places.

Car - My A hole of an ex used to be responsible for it. Magically 'LOST' (read never did it in the first place because I checked with the garage) the service history. Which means that now it needs it's last service and a repair, the repair may not be covered under the warranty because it hadn't been serviced. Great, thanks, cheers for that. So if I do get the lump of money from him then I have a feeling some of it, if not all, will be going towards the car and not just the CC. Have managed to get a courtesy car for the day though (£10 charge, but would be about £7 and twice as long to get to work if I didn't). Also got told a filter possibly isn't covered by the warranty so another £48 potentially to pay. Oh YAY. This month is not off to a great start....

A hole said 'I'll sort it out' when asked about the cash promised. Again, still not holding my breath.

I could literally ring his neck. And of course I don't have a car fund saved up yet. Is this what I would use my emergency fund for?

  • I'm over posting, I know. Is there such a thing on your own diary? Anyway...

Went for a walk at lunch and have come up with a plan, well, two plans.

    1. If the a hole pays the lump (£400), put that towards the car and anything left over goes on MBNA

    I don't think it's likely so plan b

    2. Throw any extra money towards the car and leave MBNA for the moment. There's no point me chipping away at debt if I just need to pay for the repair on the CC. I have £18 in the weekly left overs, £21 in my emergency fund, some pennies in Paypal from surveys and anymore that come between now and then. Any ebay sales that come in between now and the 12th (Car Day) and I've applied for an envelope to send a broken phone to sell which should be about £40. That should give me at least £80 cash, which means even if I have to use CC, it won't be as much.

Feeling, once again, a little more settled with a plan in place.

Yes the emergency fund could be used to pay for unexpected car repairs but ideally going forward you would have a savings pot specially for car repairs, tax, insurance etc etc. Work out annual cost and divide by 12. If the insurance, mot etc is due at beginning of year the first year will be slightly different and the first few months will need substantially more put aside.

  • Thank you :) I'd planned on starting the 'car pot' with my next wages, it's reinforced the need for it now!

  • Hi!

Just out of interest, which bank has the current account which lets you create pots? That sounds really interesting.

    Thanks

Most banks allow you to have a few savings accounts that can have funds transferred into them. I have a couple with Santander - called Christmas and Holiday, then a few with Halifax, called car and emergency. Each Friday they all get a bit except for Car which has a monthly SO going into it.

  • Money Spending - It's barclays

Karonher - That's exactly what I've done, but I'm confusing myself! I've got some in one, some in another and plan on some in another. I'm easily confused, so think it might be better for me to have them all in one place, all named :o

Meena - I'm obsessed right now. I wasn't, it was just background, but now I jeffed up the budget and found out the car might cost me I went into minor panic mode. I have to have the car, I just didn't want to have to start my journey dropping hundereds on it, especially if it could have been avoided  Oh well, live and learn. I can't panic, I can just damage limitation as much as possible between now and then and start the BLINKING CAR POT!:D

All the jobs done for today including gym. Early night tonight, I'm whacked! Hope everyone has had a lovely day xx

  • Morning Morning.
Cheeky little ebay sale last night. Only a few quid but I've put it straight into the pot now named ohmygodineedtopayforthecar. Not even thinking about the week off until after that.

Nothing on the list today except survey when I can, and maybe another gym tonight. Spag bol out the freezer for dinner. Pop to sainsbos and attempt to buy bananas, pasta and a cucumber with nectar points. Thanks again Joey for the heads up on the site!

Have a good day all, I hope this coffee does it's job and kicks in soon, the storms kept me up last night!

Early daily round up from me as I'm sneaking out early today. Gym and company tonight, not going out though just Big Brother on the sofa.

Not a NSD. £1.14 in Sainsbos, tried to pay using nectar points but minimum is £2.50. Doh.

Another £1.58 in the ohmygodineedtopayforthecar pot.
