Why would the provider agree to a tariff reduction on a contract only 25 days in? The handset has a retail value of anything up to £750, so the bulk of that £35pm is paying for that. Reducing it to say £30 would be giving away much of their margin on a 2 year deal. Not going to happen.

most handset contracts are now separate - i have one for my handset and one for my airtime ...

On Three? I haven’t seen that.

O2 Refresh and Virgin are the only ones I can think of. Are there any others?

Well, from a technical point they were right.

A non-Three branded S6 won’t be able to access 4G Calling or 800MHz signal, this can make a huge difference for in-building signal and rural coverage.

You can always flash the Three firmware onto the non-Three Samsung if you did want full service.

As d123 says, you won't receive the same signal as if it was a phone bought from three.
I have a sony xperia xz premium bought from sony direct. It didn't work on the 800MHz signal (which for me was essential) so I had to manually flash the three firmware onto it so that it could access that band (and wifi calling too)
