Please please please someone tell me what gadgets you can buy to stop a newborn crying, or just to make our lives easier in general?
I'm talking about the time when cuddles, feeding, rocking, nappy changing, etc just won't work.
Is it a case of 'wait it out', or is there some miracle cure?
And, what makes life easier in the way of gadgets. At the moment the only 'easier life' gadget I've found is a nappy wrapper. Anything that makes life that little bit easier would be appreciated and I would pay good money for it.
PS can you tell from the style of this post that im knackered?0 -
Try running the vacuum cleaner or the washing machine.
My first child pretty much for the first 7 years of his life. No one but me and his dad would have him for a minute. Daughters 1 and 2? Quiet as mice.
I also swaddled my son, that did help a LITTLE bit. I was supported by a group called "CRY-SIS" but even they said he was the worst they had sn.
Looking back i think he had cranial problms and pain from a very difficult birth.
It was all 25 years ago but even now when i hear a baby cry i tnse inside. Good luck to you both x0 -
Welcome to parenthood!
However, I personally would not have got through the first 3 months without the Fisherprice cradle swing...;)

A decent sling/baby carrier can at least enable you to have two free arms when you are holding the baby and walking around the house crying cos you are so tired...

I also took my DS to see a cranial osteopath who'd been recommended - but I am aware that a lot of people would think this was a waste of money. The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0 -
Our youngest is now 11wks old so I really appreciate where you're coming from!!
We find his bouncy chair is very useful (does make you legs ache after a while though) We also have one of the battery operated swings which he seems to like, we just don't leave hime in either for long periods of time.
He tends to get really ratty when he's tired, and at this point we find the best solution is to take him up to bed, shut the curtains, turn the lights off and ignore him (Sounds really mean though doesn't it) He soon settles himself down though.
You could also try a warm bath, this normally helps for us
Good Luck!0 -
A sling is definitely a good buy. My baby is 8 months old now but for the first 3 months cried and cried. I had the mothercare 3-position carrier, and used it with her on my front, facing me. At first she'd scream when I put her into it but if I started walking straight away she'd quieten and usually go to sleep. I spent a lot of time walking for those 3 months.
Some people found gripe water or infacol helped but they didn't seem to work for mine.0 -
Oh just remembered - I used to put the extractor fan on when he was bad - it did used to help.
If it's any consolation, he calmed down a bit about 3 months, started sleeping 8 hours a night at 5 months, and now at 20 months sleeps 12/13 hours a night as well as daytime naps.
Honestly, you will get through this!
I think we had this CD which helped http://www.babysleepguide.co.uk/music.html, but there are others.

We used a prince lionheart slumber bear with my dd (although I have to say from birth to now, she's just turned 3, we've only had 4 or 5 nights she hasn't sept through). The bear comes with a movement/sound activated noise box which plays sounds from the womb. I must say it was very soothing for us also! Costs about £30, well worth it, I shall be using it again when the baby i'm pregnant with now arrives. In the first month or so I also ued to lay the top i'd worn that day down over the moses basket matress so she could lie on top so would always be able to smell my being close as an added comfort. Whether these 2 things played a part in making her a good sleeper or not I don't know, but i'll def keep to this next time.
Hope things settle down soon.Fight for clean hospitals, C-DIFF takes lives
