Need some advice please.
I have set up my own Ironing service. https://www.theironingangel.com
I'm in rugby, so far have posted 100 leaflets & only got 1 customer.
I've just picked up my 2nd basket. last week I had my first load & it took 2.5 hours!!!! for £10, as I charge £10 a basket but he has just dropped off his 2nd basket & it's fuller than the last one, 8 shirts & loads of trousers etc do you think I can ask for £15 as it's a big basket & take the gamble on lossing my only customer?0 -

Hi there, I also charge by the basket but say that a basket is upto 30 items. I charge per item upto the value of a basket and I charge per item for items over 30 upto the value of 2 baskets.
I also learnt the hard way, I don't offer a basket discount if it is all shirts. Basket has to be mixed items.

Hi again I'm just about ready to start my ironing business but the one thing that is holding me up is delivering the clothes in my car. I have a Vauxhall Corsa and was going to attach a rail in the back to hang the garments on but am having problems trying to work out how to attach the rail. If anyone has done similar or has any ideas would you please let me know?
I will be extremely grateful

Hi,
I live in the north east and am currently 25 and finding it really hard to get a job after being made redundant.
I am considering setting up a ironing & cleaning service and applying for a grant through the princes trust.
I need some help (please) from people who already run this sort of business with my business plan, running costs and starting costs.
I am planning on charging by the item, buying a cheap van with graphics on and getting some equipment for both the ironing and cleaning side.
I really need to make my business plan as good as I can to get the funding needed.
Thanks0 -
Hi everyone,
I am just starting out doing ironing from home. I intend to charge £20 per basket, and see how that goes. Most items will be folded and if the customer would like shirts etc to be hung, I will ask for coat hangers to be provided. I used to work for a home cleaning company and they were very successful with the ironing side of things. The only problem I have, is that unless the customers are very close to me, I would have to ask that they dropped the ironing off, as I don't usually have the car. Hubby works away from home quite a lot and he has the car with him. Would anyone view this as a major problem.?Personally, I wouldn't mind delivering my washing and collecting it ready to wear.
If anyone requires an ironing lady in the Doncaster area, I am 57, and live in a pet free and smoke free home. PM me....

plus have a friend who's basket I'm picking up later & hopfully another friend tomorrow.

I charge £10 a basket which is 25 items & £3 for every 10 items after that.0 -
Hi
I'm finding it really inspiring reading all your posts and seeing how you are all getting on. I have finally been able to fix a rail in my Corsa and with the back seat removed have just enough space to begin with, however I would probably invest in a van depending if the business takes off.
I just need to sort out insurance and deliver some flyers and then we'll see. I do have 2 customers already waiting so thats a start.
Elsie52 I would think ifyou've got people coming to your house you'll need some kind of pulic liability insurance, I'm not sure about it mind but you should check it out.

Thanks Jen, I will check that out. Why are things so blooming difficult.!!! I am having enough trouble trying to get extra work as it is, and if the Conservatives get their way, I will have to work until I'm 66.......God knows where or how. Oh well, onwards and upwards.
