Forgot to also add that my OH set me up a website very recently too. It's basic and I've only actually received 2 customers through it but hey, that's two more than I'd have had before0

Hi, I've been dropping business cards all around my local area and have also done a website.
Am hoping that with a bit more pushing of my business cards and word of mouth from own few regulars things will pick up. Have been thinking about approaching some of the hotels and restaurants where I live tomorrow to see if I can drum up some business. I think that this ironing from home lark is a good idea as long as I keep positive and patient when it comes to getting customers.0 -

Glad the ideas proved to be of interest, don't forget that people do buy a service from people, particularly people who come across as professional and likeable. Providing an ironing service is a fab idea and people will always pay well if the service can be seen as worth it,.
Husband picking up and delivering works, get a magnetic car door logo saying what you do and as he parks up neighbours will see what service he is offering. When he delivers operate the two / three system, at each delivery or collection drop a card or flyer either side of the house and the three opposite, no more than that.
Remember to check out good ironing systems though just like fast press.
Good luck0 -
Well I have just put my first advert/card in the local newsagents offering my ironing services.
I have printed off 500 x A4 flyers and will go leaflet dropping tomorrow evening.
Does anyone know a good way of starting up a (free) website at all?
Any other advise is welcome!
PS Anyone in Titchfield Common (Hampshire) and surrounding areas looking for their ironing to be done...you're welcome to PM me :0)0 -
Hello all, I've been browsing this thread as im also thinking of starting up a local ironing service.
I have a few family and friends who are interested so was going to start with them and see how it goes and maybe take on more in the future.
I've been trying to work out how much to charge. I was going to charge per item etc. The people i know who are interested are families so was going to have a different price for adult/kids clothes etc but to keep it simple for now i was thinking £20 for a bin bag full (standard bin bag that can be tied closed). How does this sound?
I was thinking of £12.50 per 20 items of adults clothes ie shirts, skirts, trousers.
I dont mind bedding but i hate ironing it so was going to charge £2.50 for single duvet cover, £3 for double and £3.50 for kingsize. 50p per pillowcase and fitted sheets.
I would offer collect and delivery within 48 hours. Hangers are to be provided otherwise everything will be folded.
Im going to have an experiment tonight with how much fits in a bin bag and how long it will take me to iron everything.
Overall i would like to be making £10 per hour after my costs (petrol, electric etc).
How does this pricing sound? Any advice will be gratefully received. TIA.0 -

Hi,
Can anyone give me details of free websites as I'm just in the middle of setting up my own ironing service. Have already bought my domain name, £6 for 2 years!!0 -
Hi Michelle, Have you tried to put items in a bin bag? We have worked it out at if they are small items 40-60 if they are large items its more 30-40 you will get some people ramming them in so not only will it be impossible to iron they will also be getting it done for a good price!
Charge per item. If you are doing a collection and delivery service then if people mess you about and you have to go back charge £5 for your fuel and time you will then find that people stop messing you around if they think your going to get charged.
Sorry I've not been around here for a while been really busy.
I have however noticed another ironing service about 5 miles from us trading under the same name. But I don't think they will be lasting much longer. I wish that other people would research the names before using it.
If you want any more advice let me know
Steph xx0
