I have found adverts on the internet to be quite sucessful. Although get most business from cards that people have picked up from local businesses.

I have a sucessful ironing business to sell as I am moving away later this year.
I work from home and I am based in Carshalton Surrey.
I have 30 regular clients and have earned £10k growing to £20k a year for the past 8 years.
It could suit a Mum with school age children and could fit well between 9 and 3pm, with deliveries and pick-ups at 6 to 7 pm.
I would be happy to help someone take this opportunity with meeeting clients showing them my record keeping, self assessment calculations and how easy the business is to run.
It would cost £2000 a one off payment for this business which is basically 4 - 6 weeks work and then all the following business would be yours.
I would be happy to be an advisor whilst you settle into the business either my e mail or telephone.0 -
If I pay an extra £250 per month off various credit cards they will all be paid off within 2 years!!!!!-using the min payments calculator on here-excellent!!!!!So the reason for this post!!!!is to say if anyone in the south Cumbria/Furness area would like me to iron for them.....pm me!!!!! I already work 2 part time jobs as well as having 6 children-all boys!!! at home-a bit of extra ironing would hardly be noticed!!!! Icould iron whilst watching tv in the evenings and be doing something a bit more useful than lounging on the settee!!!!!0

Hiya everyone, I've been lurking for a while and must have tripple read this thread!
I am in the process of setting up my own ironing service and was wondering if I could rack your brains about how much I should be charging per pound/kilo as I've decided to price my service depending on weight - I chose this because I'm not incredibly fast at the moment so price per hour doesn't seem fair and it got too confusing working out the pricing per various items / bin bag / basket as there will always be those people who cram as much in as they possibly can.
Any reply is appreciated, thank you!0 -
Hi Shine! We don't do it by weight so I can't really help you there. We charge per item 63p no matter what it is. We don't do bedding as people can take the mick with it. It's so much easier charging a flat rate for every item.
If you charge per weight people might just send a million light weight things like football tops etc.
I hope this helps you. If you want any more help send me a PM

Hiya Steph, Thanks for your reply
I did think about charging per item but it's more difficult to estimate how much the service will cost the customer on collection which is what a lot of people round here are after, although a part of me would still like to do this.
So far I've drawn up a rough leaflet idea that I need to print out then get photocopied and have been practicing on anything I can get my hands on and weighing it afterwards to work out my speed and how much I'm earning per hour at the moment. I'm on my way to the big shops this afternoon to pick up an iron too, it's all very excitingI'm also taking somebody's suggestion on here to wait until the weekend to hand on leaflets so that people actually read them *thumbs up*
I'm sure I'll be back on here for more advice very soon but thanks again for your advice!0 -
Can anyone recommend the best place to get insurance for doing ironing for others at my house, also I have a people carrier but am wondering how people transport the ironed clothes when they are just starting out, obviously don't want to buy a van just yet!!
Many thanks0
